IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 Trader Rating: (3) | So that was my big gift from *cough* the best girlfriend ever . To start off, the COBB piece is nice looking. (Not that it matters because you can't see it but its nice) The instructions are straight forward and really just a formality. By that I mean if you can't figure out how to put this thing in without the instructions then you have no business owning any tools. ![]() My one gripe is that I hade to modify the shifter to make it fit. The problem was that the shaft on the shifter was too small for the reverse lockout cable to seat properly. I don't know if mine was a bad one or what, but I have never read of this problem before. Basically I had to bore out the shaft so that the cable would seat properly. (yes I'm sure I could have sent it back to COBB and got another one but I didn't feal like waiting two weeks to get it) So I drilled out part of the shaft on the handle making this everything BUT a bolt on instalation. Everything else I love. The shifts are rediculosly short, the handle sits just where I want it, and the shifter's position is changed sligthly (for the better IMO) This ad is not endorsed by this member. I've got the Cobb installed on top of an STi short shifter that has Kartboy bushings. I couldn't be much happier with this set up... not quite the S2000 "snick-snick" I was targeting, but close enough! |

One of the biggest pluses to me is the fact that you can adjust the hieght of the shifter. I love mine tall cause it's less of a reach from the steering wheel to shift . . you know when you in the middle of that nice hard turn and you heel toe from fourth the third I don't like to keep my hand off the wheel for too long !!!!!! |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | The shift effort changes as you increase or decrease the height so its hard to say, but overall yes. I think it gives it a more positive feeling though, its near impossible to miss a gear. Ive had mine for a while and love it. I just added tic pivot bushings and it made it even more solid, theres absolutely no movement or play in the shifter when the car is in gear, which makes it feel awesome. |

| dances with roads | I had a hard time lining up the cable housing to get the pin in the reverse lockout cable, but there was no need to bore anything out. Yours is the first I have heard of that issue. |

| Junior STI Driver | I had to tap the reverse lock-out cable end to get it to seat in the Cobb shift lever. It just felt like the production tolerances from the cable maker and Cobb were at their max/min to make the fit an light interference fit instead of a slip fit. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (15) | I've heard mixed reviews on Short Shifters... I'm fairly happy with the stock one, but the throws could be a BIT shorter... anybody compare the Kartboy SS to the COBB one? |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | ^a friend on here has a kartboy and another driver compared his to my Cobb and said that the kartboy was shorter. This was when i installed mine and didn't adjust the left side of the shifter, the one that adjusts the throw. Since I've adjusted mine to all the way up, the shortest throw you can have, the Cobb is def. shorter. My shifter in 2nd 4th or 6th looks like it's in neutral and you actually have to grind down the metal plate that surrounds the shifter assembley in the top left corner. If you do not do this you won't be able to put the car in 1st or 3rd, thats how short/different the throws are. Definetly much more "effort" in shifting but I also installed the bushings the same time and they're great. No shift play at all and very solid feel. You get use to it. ! |

| Grassroots STI Racer | same problem here, had to drill out the seat inside the shifter so the reverse lockout cable would seat properly, and that was after Cobb sent me a new one thinking the first one was defective, shifter worked great for a month untill it loosened up and started vibrating, now the lower set screw wont tighten enough to lock the blue assemble onto the lower shift rod,Cobb is again sending me a new shifter with what they say are the correct tolerances,so far customer service has been great, the problem is the product was unfortunatelly designed poorly now my car is down till it arrives |

| Iron Fisted | Yea, I've only heard of a few problems with this issue. Otherwise, only good things. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
