IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | I looked all over my home town for Valvoline... NG. Advance and Autozone had "Coastal" brand.... which I never heard of. O'Reilys had "Lubrimatic" which I used to use in my 150 hp Merc outboard gearbox for many years without problem. Pep boys, you name it only had synthetic 75/90 GL5, not Dino. Non synthetic 75/90 just doesn't seem too popular(?) in stores. I went with the Lubrimatic 75/90 GL5 NS. All is good. I was changing out 80/90 GL5 that the Jag/Subaru dealer put in because I couldn't shift it into 2nd when cold.... and cold wasn't very cold like 38 degrees! Shifts great now. From all I have read 75/90 GL5 NS and Subaru spec LSD oil for dis the way to go.... be carefull not to overfill. Let it drain from both plugs for a while. I put in about 3.7 quarts. Let it sit overnight and then topped off... only 4 quarts to the full line... so some of the old oil must of been left in there, capacity is a little over 4 quarts. | Amateur STI Driver | I'm using Valvoline dino 80w90 (bought at local shop, couldn't find 75w90 locally). It worked fine all summer, but at -25C (-13F) it makes for a pretty stiff shifter and there is a lot of drag in tight corners until it gets a bit of heat in it. At -10C and above it was great. |
