is it bad to set it to all the way back if you drive on the fwy for a long time? Or is it bad only if you are going to make slow turns? I always wonder because it seems that I get better gas mileage when i set it to the back instead of auto....But i dont want to burn something out. Anybody know?

04-05s "auto" functions the same as knocking the wheel all the way "to the rear" most of the time.

Yeah until you loose traction.

seta311: "lock" is the one you don't want to use when making tight turns. All the way to the rear or "open" is fine for driving on pavement making tight turns.

are you sure? ive wondered this for the longest time. i did this once in lock and never wanted to touch the dial ever again. it just made the most horrible clunking noise/feel ive ever heard/felt in my life lol. you can do normal every day driving and parking lot menuvering (SP?) just like it was in auto or what?

I wonder why it acted so much different with the power all in the back?

lock causes your diffs to set the torque even going to all the wheels, so when you make a turn on pavement, the diffs will clunk like crazy. Only use lock on snow, gravel, or dirt.
