| Lurker | whats up everyone, this is my 1st post and it should be cause i just bought my STI 3 days ago, well i named the thread gone to the dark side because i own a 95 trans am and i was so against all the honda kids in my town and all the junk they threw on there cars, then i went to a subaru dealer and they talked me into going for a test drive in a STI and needless to say here i am at the forum now, well the truth is i know nothing about these engines really, all i know is i can feel all this power and i REALLY wanna heat it, i had a nice borla exhaust on the T/A with no cat and it was awesome, now my car is so quite and i just can't take it, how many cats do these sti's come stock with?? what is a good exhuast system??? when i get they exhaust system will it eliminate some of the cats, im really against them i think cars go and sound better without them but thats my opinion but i just have so many questions about the car, basically where should i start, i have 9k on the car, i i got a good deal on it cuz it had 9k miles on it and it was flawless, but yea anyways i really want a nice exhuast, not top of the line expensive but something decent with a good reputation, will a nice cold air setup help this baby out to, and what should i avoid messing with and basically just wanna know where to start with this bad boy, i must say it puts my T/A to shame, not power wise i def think the STI will beat the ta in the 1/4 mile but it makes my T/A feel like an absolute peice of junk now and i'll be getting rid of it, so yea i'm very interested on any info i can get guys, all i can say is i'm very happy with my choice of finally getting away from the trans am and this STI is freakin awesome!!, thanks in advance for any advice guys This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Welcome DrisDro.....join the crowd of those of us who went from the Domestic scene to the Import scene. There are numerous people on this forum who traded their F-bodys in for the Sti or who own both. I personally went from 6 previous Mustangs, a few with numerous heavy mods, to the STi. I was one of the ones who also hated the import scene. I had the "IMPORTS SUCK!" sticker on my the last 3 Mustang's rear glass..had the "IMPORTS SUCK" T-shirt. But I tell 'ya, I always liked the "REAL" Imports.....Skylines, Supras, RX-7's, etc., etc....so when the STi was brought to our shores, I had to jump on it. So, don't feel bad, the STi is awesome!!!...Just be prepared for significantly increased aftermarket prices for "go-fast goodies"....Otherwise, welcome aboard..... |

Small mods such as catback can start all kinds of problems such as "boost creep". You will have to slightly change your ideas on mods - turbo changes everything, for instance, cold air induction is not going to help as much on a turbo car as on a naturally aspirated motor. Now for the good news! you came to the right place! Pretty much everything going on with our new motor, trans, body and 10 years of imprezza line is being discussed here. Search around for exhaust and cold air intakes (or CAI) and you will probably discover that there are many mods being frantically researched for production right now (engine management, active suspension, upgraded turbo) and many other easy, tested, well documented mods (bushings, grounding kit, hoses) you can do right now (probably yourself). Also, Welcome! One less V8 owner that needs to be shown the light! P.s. - you can still be against the honda kids! |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | the STi is a noble replacement for the F-body. you won't be disappointed. the rumbling exhaust note that you miss, well, chances are no aftermarket exhaust will get you that V8 growl back. you're dealing with a flat-4 from here on out. my 69 camaro shook my bones, the STi just kind of vibrates it. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Well, it's obvious that capaSTi doesn't agree with me in regards to the price of aftermarket goodies...that's cool though...but I guarantee there is no way you will build the same amount of hp/tq from the STi as you can an American V8 (GM, Ford or otherwise) dollar for dollar....just not gonna happen. It's quite easy to take a carb'd V8 and build significant amts of hp for cheap...not hard at all to get 450, 500, 600 hp with a set of heads, intake and a good cam off a random V8. The research is there...years and years of it. Regardless, the STi is great. A true thrill ride every time the key is turned. I obviously love it as I traded my V8's for one. But as I've mentioned in numerous previous posts, my dream would be to have the STi on one side of the garage and a Cobra (not that it's the best, just a personal favorite) on the other...So if you can afford it DrisDro, don't get rid of your T/A...you'll miss it as soon as it's gone...THERE IS NOTHING like the growl of a V8 to those who have grown to love it.....Do what DrEvyl has done and keep both....!!! |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | am i the only one that thing black wheels make you look like your running spares all around? I dont care what car.. or what kind of black rim (as they all look the smae) from more then 50ft away it looks like you're running spares or your wheels are horribly dirty. Im not a huge chrome fan, but I think wheels should look clean... the polished blitz silver and such are very nice (the best imo) the silver that almost looks white when its clean (kinda like STi silver wheels). *shrug* maybe its just me?
