well since ur car is modded to the point where you wanna keep ur car, then get the 07 gears in. I personally think the new gearing is great for DD, and its a big adv. for the 1/4... the changed gears for 07 are 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

i dont have the exact gear speeds on me at the moment but i know 2nd tops out at around 57 mph, not really sure about 3rd, and 4th tops around 112 or so.

I've been thinking about this since I bought my car. It would make daily driving a little easier, and since mine is my DD I would like longer gears. I used Oakos Automotives Gear Ratio Calculator to find out the '07s are doing 42mph in 4th gear at 2500 rpms vs. my '06 doing 35 mph in 4th at 2500 rpms. 4th gear in the '07s really shines at the track where 4th tops out at 108mph at 6500 rpms vs. 98mph for the '06. One less shift would definitely help.
Now I've just have to figure out where to get stock '07 gears (w/o the gearbox)....

The longer gears in the 07 are really making a difference. I believe someone on "another board" ran a 12.1 with only a tbe, headers, and a tune. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears can be purchased through a dealer I believe and they should drop into your gear box.

I also want to know if anyone knows if its possible or how much it would be to swap 07 gears into an 06 STi tranny. I dont want a dogbox tranny or anything like that. Just a stock tranny with 07 gears...

Oh and heres an email I just got from Andrewtech about installing the 07 gears into a 04-06 STi Tranny...

Yes, we believe that we can, in fact, we have the very first set on order
and already plan to install them into an '05 STi. Gonna cost around $2000
for a ballpark number for you to think about. We should know for sure in
about a month, depending on when the gears come in!

i think Zero/Sports offers somesort of replacement gears for the STi (I might have remembered incorrectly, but I think I saw something on alternative gears for the STi). I shall look into it. I know for sure they make a 5 to 6 spd conversion and its supposedly better than the STi 6spd tranny swap.

I would be curious to see if a local tranny shop could just swap the gears. $2000 is alot of money for swapping some gears.

and '07 gears aren't that different from previous model, less than 1mph difference in second. And I'd disagree that the STi gears are good for autocross.

The gears are ok on small courses, but we have too many big, fast (65mph +)autocrosses around here and I run out of second gear at 53mph.

So are there options for different gears?

Hmm, I wonder if the Suby dealer would be any cheaper for swapping gears?

The benefits of the gear swap aren't huge in 2nd gear, but the 4th gear is outstanding for 1/4 mile speeds (114mph)

Let's keep on looking into this. I want my 06 to stay atop the 07s.
