| Junior STI Driver | get your car off the ground, by either jack stands or a lift and inspect all the rotating components of the drive train from the tranny out. i've had small rocks get stuck in my brake caliper and start whacking the wheel weights and make a similar noise, although they wore out the weight quickly. i've also heard of instances of a pebble getting stuck in the front of the driveline cover at the rear diff. good luck. |

I think there is a PDF here somewhere that shows how to do a diagnostic check of the axles to see if they have "twisted". The other obvious things are to check your rear diff oil. Drain it and check for any bits of metal. Check your endlinks to make sure they aren't bent and rubbing against the lateral links. Failing that, take it to a mechanic and have them hook up a listening device. Good luck. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Thanks for the responses guys, let me address some of them. My lug nuts are tight to factory specs. DCCD is in auto. I have inspected endlinks and all axles--including circular driven tests to rule out axles. No launches at all. Just changed Rear Diff. oil 1000 miles ago with no metal shavings at all. So I guess my only option is to take it to a mechanic. I hate noises. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Hmm, well I dont know how this thread got turned into a transfer case thread...but, the car has around 50k on it. BTW- Im just messin around. Hope you figure your problem out. You know what I just realized, the noise sounds exacly like when you turn a coilover collar/spring perch that is a bit rusty or stuck. It sounds like the coilover collars are moving. However, I just checked them and they are all tight as can be. This is weird to say the least. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | It is funny you mention that because the rear coilovers are exhibiting something strage. When I have the adjuster spring perch to the maximum height (in range according to KW's website) in the rear, the car is still incredibly low. 12" range. So I have them above the maximum height range at the moment and my car is at 13.2"-13.3". The performance certainly doesn't suffer, but it is something that I have been meaning to contact KW about. It still doesn't address the front noises though... |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Same sound is there...I have yet to replace the axle nuts. I have also contacted Tom at KW about the suspension poblem and we are in the process of working that out. That is a separate issue though. The main noise is in the front. PICTURES ABOVE!
