In Canada an STI oil filter with sealing washer is $24.00 tax in. Anybody using top quality after market filters and if so what makes and part numbers. I'm interested to know the synthetic oil of choice by most owners as well?

Default Just got back from a test drive>>>

Just finished doing my first oil change a little while ago... Mobil 1 5W-30 Synthetic. $29.00 for a box of 6 qts.

I used the Subaru OEM filter + crush washer. Around $5.75 for the filter.

Default Finally have sound (and video)

I believe there are several sponsors of this website who sell filters and crush washers at competitive prices. I know that subaruparts.com also stocks them. Order several to save on shipping costs.

Default Turbo XS boost controller?

I plan to use Amsoil in the future. Fairly exspensive. About $8 a quart

What do you guys mean by crush washers?

You talking about on the oil pan bolt?

If so, why are you wasting your money on it?

You can reuse those things for at least 25k miles?

Isn't that being overly cautious?

Or is there some type of weird crush collar setup on the STi filter?

The crush washer sits betwen the oil pan and the drain plug, costs .68 you need to change that on every oil change.

Looks like a keyring.

nevermind about the drain plug. I found it http://fumotovalve.com/ =)

It has some pretty good comments. Anyone having problem with this plug? Just want to read more feedbacks before I put it on my car. =)

That fumoto valve is nice, however does it have any magnetic properties like the stock dp?

If not then that would be the only disadvantage IMO, not being able to check for metal flakes in the oil. Unless of course you cut the filter.

I had one in my WRX for nearly two years and never had any problems. Some internet comments have concerned the very small amount of oil left in the valve when draining oil. All of a teaspoon or so... :-?

There's a drain plug by Fram Have you seen it? It cost half of Yumoto at Walmart. Any inputs?

1.) OEM is fine. Get it from an online vendor like subaruparts.com. You won't find it cheaper and you won't find it at pepboys.
2.) Up to you. I prefer Mobil 1. At the very least go with subaru recommended.
3.) Remove the oil fill plug before removing the drain plug so oil doesn't go everywhere, and don't forget the crush washer nor leave the original one on the drain plug.

Here's a nice article on changing your oil.

http://www.555club.com/articles/article21/article21.htm

Check the crush washer pics mid-way on the page.
