I was told to do this with my bike as well, and that thing is hella fast now too. But thats my break in! =)
remember though that the rev range of a motorcycle is vastly bigger than a car, revving the STi at 4 out of 7 thats 57% of max. Thats like revving a R6 to around 7700 rpm assuming a 13500 redline.

Yup bitabur. Your welcome. Did a track day at about 2,000 miles too. Always warmed up before a run. Did 3 days of Auto-X, one track day, and 7 hillclimbs last year. Mellow on the street though. Shift below 4,000 rpm 99.9 percent of the time.

I have about 6700 miles on my STi. It burns no oil at all. Here's my story:

I was really nice to it for the first 1008 miles (following the break-in to the letter), got the oil changed, then hammered on it the moment the new oil was warm. At 1051 miles fuel injector #4 stuck open on my car and the engine flooded  . I got that fixed, and had the oil changed again. At ~3000 miles I switched to Mobil 1 5-30 and have driven with lots of spirit since ! Oh yeah, oil change at 6108.
