Default Sti-Popping out of 2nd gear?

Has this ever happened to you guys? I was braking pretty hard, and second gear just popped to neutral? It drives fine though, no grinding noise no nothing. I just thought that was weird.

Just happened that one time. Other than that it stayed in in low and high speeds. Maybe it was just a one time thing?

If it is a one time thing dont worry about it. But pay attention to it and see if it happens again. You could have some worn synchros or other bits keeping the stick from fully engaging and staying in gear. Most likely its nothing though.

Thanks guys!! Should be fine, the car only has 1600 miles. No launching, abuse or anything like that. I will keep an eye on it, thanks again!

Have you noticed when you get off the gas that the shifter moves? I'd bet that the combination of quickly getting off the gas and braking, plus extremely rare timing, that the tension on the shifter was eased enough that it got jostled into neutral. You can actually push the shifter out of almost any gear at a specific RPM when off the throttle. I did this accidently a couple times in my RSX.

I'd say it was just one of those REALLY rare occurrences or it wasn't fully in gear when you got back on it.

Yea at higher RPM's it can happen too. I noticed it 2 time when i was in first at about 30 mph, i let the car drone out going back down and the shifter popped out into neutral. I thought it was due to vibration as well

Nope, that's a worn synchro, get it looked at.

How would a worn synchro allow the shift collar to disengage? The synchros are only there to help the dog teeth/collar mesh with the gear and "engage" with it, not hold the two together. At least that is my understanding of it...

^ Time to upgrade to the new '07 gears. It looks like you have a hook-up

I don't know why, I just know the fix. The fix is to change the synchros.
