Default Clutch Install Finished....Finally

We got the axels removed. Now we are having trouble removing the transmission case. Are there any tips to pulling it off?

thanks
christian

if you have axle stubs (the green cup) then rotate the axle and you'll see the end of the spring pin without pulling anything out.

If you don't have stubs the the axle should just pop out. Be sure to make sure the circlip is on the end after you pull it out.

I don't understand... what are you trying to do? Remove the gearbox from the car? Did you remove ALL of the bellhousing bolts? The driveshaft? The transmission mount?

Oh, and if our car is anything like the WRX, there's a special bolt at about 1 o'clock on the transmission (as you're facing the front of the car) that needs to be loosened. I can't remember exactly where it is, but it has something to do with the clutch slave cylinder.

I have all of the bolts removed from the bell housing. I am trying to take off the transmission. The starter is removed, you name it I have removed it. I think that it is just tough to remove the transmission case from the motor. I did not expect it to be easy. Those of you who have done it in your garage are there any tips to taking it off that would make it easier.

first thing you got to make sure you do is to remove the clutch fork pin then have the fork dangale there, the transmisson will not come out unless you remove that pin that holds the fork in.... good luck!

Yeah, that's the part I was thinking of... seems like Subaru's setup is rather unconventional. I've changed quite a few clutches and I've never encountered anything like this before.

2. Bribe friends with beer

I use two jacks, one under the front of the bellhousing, one under the rear. I am also spoiled in that I have an engine hoist which I hooked to a mount on top of the tranny as a safety.

Click on "STi performance flywheel" everything you need is right there.
The directions and diagrams for your job are there. If you have the transmission more than a half an inch away from the motor and it still has not come off, you've missed something. If it's just a tiny bit away, it's likely just a little bit tight on the alignment dowels and input shaft.

to remove it.....
you will need a 10mm allen wrench
a small diameter bolt 6 x 1.25? about 1.5-2" long
the allen is to remove the cap located on the side of the case right under the starter.
then screw the bolt into the fork pin and pull it out

Its probably the fork pin, thats what i had trouble with when i did mine. I didnt know the fork pin was there so i cracked it from the motor and unbloted the clutch 1 bolt at a time.

Thanks, Niles those are the directions that I have been following. I am pretty sure that it will just take some negotiating to get it out. Something that I will get done tomorrow night after work.

I got the fork pin out. I kept looking at it thinking how is that a plug. Removed it and the fork pin came right out with the 6mm screw.
