Hello,

I have about 1500 miles on my STi now, and I have been noticing some interesting behavior when first starting the car when cold (approx. 35-40 degrees). Here is what happens:
- Take car out of gear
- Push in clutch
- Start car
- Let clutch out

At this point it feels like the car moves just a little bit (against the e-brake).

If I push the clutch back in, the RPMs jump up about 250 revs or so. When I let the clutch back out, RPMs drop back down again ... but no moving feeling.

All of this behavior goes away when the tranny warms up.

I have also noted a bit of a metallic rubbing noise when the clutch is out when cold, but no noise once warmed up.

Try doing the above steps with the E-brake off and see if the car actually moves. The fluid in the gearbox is really thick and the car has its rpms up with a cold start.
I was taught not to use the E-brake in winter because it could freeze up. moisture gets in the cable assembly and brake during the day and freezes up at night. --Sin52

I have tried this with the e-brake off for the last few mornings: the car never actually moves.
