Thats surface rust not even Grade A rust. When it gets to grade C then you may want to worry wtf is going on but that wont happen with this steel

Well. Since the yolk gos in and out there was worry by a few people that the rust, however little there was, would get to the seal in that area and wear it out prematurely.

Make sure the front nose of the shaft engages to the same depth as stock. A small shim may or may not be necessary between the rear flanges to satisfy that requirement.

are you talking about the long piece of metal that slips into where the gear box is?

if so - that is comes short of the stocker.

That's the part I'm talking about. The length that is inserted into the transmission should be the same. Do not worry about the amount left exposed on the ACPT shaft vs. the stock shaft. The depth of engagement is the critical amount. Once this is established, you can check for the gap if any between the flanges.

So are all the "new" shafts being delivered have no balance issues now? This is what is still basically holding me up!

do you have a picture of the "shim" part your talking about?

does it mean I have to get the bracket re-machined again?

No, the shim would be just a round metal plate of the proper thickness inserted between the two flanges. It would look just like a section from one of one of the flanges. I have no picture because the customer did not send one but described it.

You may not need this at all. Check the engagement measurement to be sure.

There is not a balance issue. The shafts are all balanced before sale. My theory after selling a lot of the driveshafts and dealing with a few apparent balance problems is that on some vehicles there is a resonance problem. There is no rhyme or reason for which vehicle will sometimes exhibit this problem.

so can I still run it without the shim for the time being?
it comes a bit short but will it still be ok?

I couldn't see it hurting if you have verified the required shim thickness is small.
