[quote=MidniteTunez] I wonder how a light flywheel and the acpt drive shaft respond together... Sounds like theyd work together well..

The combo is sweet! 1st and 2nd gear fly so fast you almost can't shift fast enough! I have also done about 175mph (after caluculating the rpm after the needle was buried) with the driveshaft in the car and no problems what so ever!

On my awd dsm i had to increase the stuttarbox launch rpms from 5000, to 5500 to get the same kind of launch due to a light weight flywheel as an example.
if i am reading this correctly this only holds true (imo) with the flywheel and pullys. drive shaft, wheels, tires and rotors you should be able to set the rpm,s lower or leave leave the setting where it is.

I dont think pulleys are heavy enough to make much difference, I think its just anything that the engine has to rotate over x amount of weight that would be significant in rpms. I know with the lighter flywheel the launch revs have to be bumped up some. I cant imagin why a lighter driveshaft wouldnt cause the same effect. Maybe anyone with the acpt d/s can elaborate on this or tell us how their launching went before/ after the install.

Drive shaft will not be the same as it is behind the clutch. When you spin up the engine you are also spinning up the flywheel, this give you engine power + some rotating momentum to apply torque to the wheels when you let the clutch out. However since the drive shaft is not spinning at this point it's not helping or hindering you. Once you do launch though less power is being put into spinning up a heavy drive shaft and can be used to spin up the wheel speed = faster acceleration.

The driveshaft won't make any difference on RPM to launch, pulleys and flywheels will. The reason that revs are raised is because there is less rotational inertia at the same speed with lighter components. Any lightened component on the engine side of the clutch will make a differnce in launching. On the other side ie. Trans,DCCD,driveshaft, diff will not effect anything since the clutch isn't engaged. Once it is ingaged you slip a little then totally engage (while at WOT) the other components simply allow you to accelerate faster.

Disclaimer:
I know that the things I listed do have an effect, but it would probably be unnoticed by almost all where as the flywheel and pulleys MAY be.

SoJDM and ImportImage (both vendors on here) each have a thread in the Vendor For Sale-Drivetrain section.

Hey stoney98,
The lower horsepower WRX's have a 5-speed tranny, so you need a different drive shaft. I saw that sojdm had them.

This is what you are looking for!

Just had mine installed today, 30 mins is all it took. I can vouch for few improvements over stock unit: it revs faster, drives smoother, shifts easier. I took the car up to 105 going on ramp to make sure no vibration nor weird noises. I'm quite used to getting the speed up in it, but how it got up there boggled the mind, and because the car drove smoother, it was very hard to tell how fast the car was actually going until you looked at the speedometer.

All in all, I agree with lots of you who had this installed, not the best bang for the buck, but I think this is better than slapping big turbos on to a car, well, in a daily driveability kind of sense.

Glad you're enjoying it I thought the improved driveability was the best part - and any future performance mods will be that much more effective with the CF DS.
