My first idea is to got with the 1-4 PPG straightcut gearset with dog engagement and keep stock 5 and 6[quote]

PPG. I was talking with a friend who works at an install shop in MD that works with PPG. He was telling me aside from the baddest sounding transmission, the 4th and 5th ratios are the same, so in essence, you just end up shifting 4th straight to 6th, effectively making a 5 spd.

Then again, you probably know all that, if this entire board doesn't already.

He has the straight cut PPG gears in his WRX 5spd and it sounds gnarly, almost like its in reverse (my first experience with a straight cut box, and I call myself a car guy).

It could be any number of things -

- Clutch not fully disengaging
- Problem with the linkage
- Problem with the pivot
- Bent shifter fork

as was said - tell us if you have any mods or have made any changes to the clutch or linkage or tranny.
Everything regarding the drivetrain is completely stock. There's no real problems with the tranny except for the fact that it takes a lot of force to shift gears while im at freeway speeds.

I've got another idea of to just go with stock gearset, steel shifter forks (why not), and JDM 5 and 6.

I've also got another idea to go with stock 1-4, jdm 5 and 6, and see if it's possible to do dog engagement on at least 1 and 2.
here's another idea: 1-4 ppg straightcut/dog with jdm 5th and 6th.
(phil gets credit for that one)
