IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | When I stall the car its jerkey. Is that bad for the timing belt or the clutch or the engine or ALL? Should I worry about it because Im learning stick in a 06 STi. I can't find a old beater to learn on. I have no choice. It is hard when I let go of the clutch a little bit and it starts to move I give it a little bit of gas and I guess I let the clutch out too early and it stalled and it is jerkey!!! Sometimes I would get it no problem but most of the time its hard I don't know why. I did this about 4 times This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. One of the things that I have found a lot of "new to stick" drivers do is leave their heel on the floor and try to work the clutch by just pointing and flexing their foot. Don't do that. Take your heel off the floor and use your whole leg.

| STI Driver | This is so funny. No, you're not going to kill your car. I swear, everyone learning stick starts releasing the clutch, gives (or doesn't give, either way) some throttle, and as soon as they start to move even a little bit they just release the clutch completely and stall. And you tell them not to do that and they do it over and over again. I don't get it. And the clutch engagement is a little "on/off" but the shifter is pretty easy. Way better than the Evo's, I test drove one and missed 3rd (it's seriously misplaced). No such problem in the STI. |

...fo sho. I'm glad I had 5 years of driving a car with a stick shift before getting to the STi. If the STi is the only car you've driven a stick on you'd be amazed how easy it is compared to say, a 150hp accord. I think the easiest stick shift I've ever driven is a gt mustang, they get so much torque right off the bat that the car just engages so smoothly.

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | Hey no worries bro. I learned stick on the STi too! Just don't burn the clutch too much, and don't worry, you'll be able to smell it when you burn it...that sounded gay, haha. Yeah, I did the same thing you did, take my foot off the clutch too fast. I was like "oh, it's caught onto gear, time to let go of the clutch"...bad idea, haha. Practice, it'll all come to you after a while. |

| Spec C Club | This reminds of the old days... I learned stick on my first ever stick car - '89 RX-7 Turbo II with aftermarket twin-plate clutch that was heavy as hell and was an on/off switch. The rotary engine having no torque down low didn't help one bit. Oh, boy it was like hell for first week. I was scared to be stopped on any hills... I could drive any manual car smoothly after that... finding engagement points on other cars were just sooo easy after dealing with the FC... haha |
