Default new clunk noise at startup...

well i've searched trying to find anyone with the same symptoms as mine...on startup i hear a clunk...i'm thinking its coming from the driveshaft but not 100% certain. Has anyone heard of this or am i just totally off the ball and is it something else. I noticed this just started happening 3 days ago and at first thought it was a busted engine mount of some sort. Any help is appreciated..

thanks

check the motor mounts, the pitch mount, and the tranny saddle. I don't think it's the driveshaft mid-bearing as it shouldn't be turning with clutch in during startup.

Do you have a aftermarket DP or headers? Check to see if they don't bang inside of the engine bay durning start up. I've noticed that the stock mounts don't prevent the engine from moving around during startup. (it could be better) I have a cusco dp and sometimes when i start it up, I can hear it clunk against the engine bay. (it did sound like it was coming from the tranny at first)

I would think if it was engine mounts, it would do it under load when driving also. I had one broken on another car and it would clunk when you got in the throttle.

yea no other clunk during driving just only this startup one which is kinda getting me a little worried. wondering if its something serious or not..yes i have a turboxs DP for almost a year now but never did it before....i know my uppipe heatshield is rattling around, but been like that for a while now and never a clunk.....

the startup clunk is random as well..doesnt always happen....btw how much play does the motor having sitting in the engine bay? as in how much shaking should it be doing....

driving the car feels normal as it always does....but new noises just freak me out espeically when i dont know what they are...

I just had the smae thing happen last week. I brought it to my mechanic and he couldn't find anything wrong other than part of the exhaust tapping the drive line. I had him check my tranny mounts as well. I wonder if he should have checkout my other mounts.........My sound was more like a "knocking" on start up. It's only happened twice, but goes away after a little gas and holds oil pressure fine. How old is your car, how many miles on it? My friend thinks it could still be the starter. Until something breaks I won't know.

I get an interesting little 'poink' from something in the exhaust system sometimes when my engine first starts, and sometimes also when I turn the engine off. I get it a lot more often in both instances when the car is warm. Car has done it since new. I think it's kind of cute.

Good deal, this post is similar to what happened to me this morning. I get a knocking of the engine for about 6 seconds and then a terrilbe burning smell that lasted a few minutes when first starting and warming the car up. After warming up for a bit everything seemed normal. I just recently got my oil changed and that is the only thing that has been done lately. I have been babying her for a while now; no high speed runs or hard launches. Just wondering what it could be.
