Default butter shifting

i find the stock shifter very notchy. i want the shifting to be more "buttery". i was told that front and rear kartboy bushings and front and rear tic bushings will do the trick... what i don't understand is aren't they the same thing but by two different companies? both would replace the stock front and rear bushings so why would i have to buy two sets? and i was also wondering what else could i replace to make shifting more smoother? thanks in advance guys.

tic sells the kartboy front and rear shifter stay bushings. they're the same. i never felt that my stock shifter was notchy. i thought it was too vague. when i installed the tic super shifter set (kb shift lever, front & rear shifter stay bushings, tic linkage bushings), shifting became more precise and had a more gated feel. some might call this feeling notchy as well. i love my shifter set-up though. my recommendation is to try to find an sti owner with these bushings and see how it feels.

The subaru shifter will always have a very mechanical notchy feel to it. The reason is because it's a rod system as opposed to something like a honda cable system which feels buttery.

Bottom line it comes down to user preference. I have a buddy who loved the smooth buttery feel of the shifter on his NSX, but I hated it because I wanted some positive feedback. Different strokes for different folks.

<---- Likes it notchy.

FWIW the Subaru shifters I've used so far have all eased and loosened over many thousands of miles of use. The notchiness doesn't completely go away (at least not so far, 100,00 miles on my '00 Legacy!) but it gets a smoother feel and takes less effort to overcome.

so when people are talking about the front and rear tic bushings and front and rear kartboy bushings, they're the same thing?

Yes. The front and rear stay bushings we sell are kartboy. The linkage and pivot bushings we sell are all TiC. The levers we sell are kartboy.

When it comes to levers, and stay bushings there are some very good reasons why we only carry kartboy.

Check out this thread as it will help you understand what goes where:

If you don't like the notchiness of the stock shifter then adding all the bushings will be something that you will hate because it will make it MORE notchy. For me, that is great. I wanted to get rid of the vagueness. There is no way to get rid of the notchiness. That is just the way it works with these transmissions (already explained by TIC above).
