IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | i went to the drag strip yesterday and i launched from about 5000rpm and the rpm's went up but the car didn't accelerate like it was supposed to and it smelled bad. a guy @ the strip said my clutch was slipping. it's smelled like this many times before but i've never lost power. now when i'm driving down the street and i try to accelerate heavily the rpm's will rise quickly but the car won't go faster. i'm not the smartest guy when it comes to cars but i think i need a new clutch. can someone confirm that a new clutch or flywheel is what i need. and if so, i've been looking @ the Eedy stage 2 ceramitalic (thick) or the ACT 6 puck race clutch. will either of those pretty much garantee me that i won't have to get another clutch for a very long time (as long as i don't upgrade the engine anymore) ????? | Junior STI Driver | just bear in mind that the clutch is designed as the fuse in the awd drivetrain. sure, you can whack an aftermarket clutch in there but (assuming you continue to drive in a certain way) you'll be transferring the mechanical shock to more expensive bits like the transmission. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | did you learn to drive stick on this car? if so, 5100 miles is TERRIBLE for a clutch. either you are terrible at driving, or something else is wrong. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | no i have about 6 years driving stick. ive driven about 10-12 cars that all had stick. i used to drive my bros 300zx twin turbo alot and never had any problems with that sucker...i have experience with stick with sports. im a good driver. i shift smooth. i rallied a mountain once on pavement and street raced a couple of times with the sti but 5100 miles is way too soon dont you think bro? i only did this a few times and even then my shifting was smooth and precise. i just called the dealer and im taking my car in to see what it is right now.
