| Amateur STI Driver Car: 06 STI Fav Mod: the ones I have yet to buy Location: British Columbia, Canada Posts: 37
IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | Tonight I began the installation for new motor mounts, and ran into a slight discrepancy and I need an answer please. I have the 2006 STI with the weaker mounts, and they broke upon launching my car. The replacements are Group-N's. What I am wondering has to do with the Group-N's compared to the stock. Here are some pictures (not the best angles, sorry) Stock: broken as you can see ![]() Group-N ![]() My question is this: on the top side of the Group Ns there are 2 bolts which the plate sits into.... on the stock ones, there is nothing like this. Do I need to just get some washers and nuts and fasten the plates to the mounts via the 2 bolts? I'm just wondering because it looks as though those 2 bolts may contact the block which worries me. I just want to make sure everything is copacetic. The mounts didn't come with washers/nuts so that is why I am curious. Yeah I'm a newb Please be gentle.Upon removing the TMIC I found I had also broken the pitch Mount as well... *sigh* going to order that and get it here ASAP tomorrow. | Junior STI Driver | My understanding after talking to the local dealership is that '06 STi's made after around 12/05 have the old style motor mounts. The question for people as far as SCCA Stock class competiton is: Is there a TSB from Subaru for this retrofit for pre 12/05 '06 STI's with the old style motor mount to make it legal? I'm checking for a friend but no success yet. Andy Hohl |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | The mounts on the 06 are a polyurethane material mount. I believe they are also liquid filled for noise/vibration reduction in the cab. Translation: Junk Well, I decided that my question was silly, and just went to the hardware shop and got some nuts/washers and installed the mounts. The Group Ns make such a huge difference compared to the stock ones. The great news about my pitch mount is that a friend has a Group N in his WRX which is down and out with a blown transmission, so I am going to take his out of his car, and order him a new one. I Put on my Helix TBE at the same time since I had to disconnect the downpipe to get the motor up, and WOWOWOW does it ever sound good haha! I will make another post another time after all my mods are done and the car is washed. |

| Junior STI Driver | I just got my 2006 STI (actually built in 2006), and that was one of the first questions I asked the dealership: Do I have the "bad" new mounts, or the "good" old mounts? They could not confirm, but basically said not to worry about it, because they would cover it under warranty if the mounts break. An email to SOA resulted in basically the same response, that any motor mount issues would be covered by warranty, but that there is no recall or plans for a recall. They also didn't answer my question regarding whether or not some 2006's had the 04-05 mounts. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (2) | How bad will the Group-N's increase NVH compared to just going with the 04-05 stock mounts?? I'm goin to swap next week probbably. I'll hit the 1k mark on my baby tonight. So I know I'll be needin something soon . My dealer already offered to replace the plastic ones with 05's, whenever I'd like at no charge..... |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (2) | Well guys, I did my 1k mile oil change tonight. Took a look at my motor mounts. It looks like the rumors of post 12/2005 cars getting the 04/05 motor mounts must be true. Cause I got em baby!!! =). No plastic crap for me. They're the good old metal bracket, with the square brick lookin bushing. I ordered my car on the 1st of April, and it was delivered on June 6th. .....wonder if its worth the hassle of messin with them for the group-n's now |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 Trader Rating: (2) | You'll have to remove the front splash guard, (like you do when your goin to change the oil) to get a good look I believe. They will be between the block and subframe, on either side of the oil pan pretty much. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
