I am experiencing some reasonable viobration from the stick at about 3500 rpms in 4th gear. The other gears are quite smooth through the different ranges, but 4th has this unusual feedback. The dealer said that they don't know as the tranny is so new to them.

Default 04 STI vibration from the shifter

Normal. Make sure not to rest your hand on the stick though.

I think it even says in the owner's manual to not rest your hand on the stick. Something about causing wear on the transmission. Whether or not this is the case, I have no idea.

It puts stress on transmission components. My audi manual actually explicitly warned against it, I don't recall the subbie manual saying anything.

There's a more important place for hand #2 anyway.

I've always heard that it is bad synchromesh trannies, but I'm not sure how accurate that actually is.

jpsti,

Nothing to worry about bro, I have the SAME feedback on my 4th gear...its called "driving an STi" Just for added confirmation, my brother(one of the master Subaru Tech's at the dealership I bought my STi from) said it was perfectly normal for 4th gear to vibrate a little more than the others.

ok maybe im a little confuse, resting your hand on the clutch is like say your in fourth gear and just leaving your hand there like holding it ryte? how can that do any harm to it, is your hand weight weighing it down or something? yeah it does say in the manuel, and also it says dont rest your foot on the clutch, is that the same thing also, if your foot is on the clutch but your not pressing down on it how can that mess it up. but yeah, my sti in fourth gear you feel more vibration on it also, your not the only one!
