Default Reverse Lockout rattles after SS install

Just wondering if anyone has had this issue and has a fix. I did a search but I didn't find anything that specifically mentioned my problem.

The reverse lockout rattles when you shift in any gear. You can shift the lockout ring from side to side to reenact the motion and sound. I already zip tied the reverse cable to ensure that it wasn't touching the drive shaft so I doubt that this is the cause.

The only thing that I can think of is the cotter pin. Maybe it isn't completely seated or something.

Any thoughts?

maybe put some white grease on the pin? it will dull any metal to metal contact...

sorry, don't know. mine got squeaky when i pull it to get reverse after the SS install. TIC has a fairly thorough checklist. One guy on this forumn was really annoyed after his SS install, but then after following the checklist and making corrections, everything was quiet again.

it not only rattles under the car, but will rattle inside.
i drove around with my middle console piece and whatever goes there off and pressed on the cable to see where it would ratlle, then zip tied it more.

I'm referring to the lock out ring not the reverse cable. The cable is fine under the car and inside of the car. I'm thinking that the cotter pin must be pushed in further but I'm not sure. Has anyone run into this issue?

My Cobb SS is doing this exact same thing. However it only does it in 3rd gear. The cotter pin goes all the way through so as long as it isn't sticking out further on one side than the other, than it's in correctly. I'm thinking that this is being caused by the reverse cable twisting and moving the ring with it. I seem to remember reading somewhere on here about replacing the spring with a stiffer one to stop this. I'll see if I can find that thread.

I have this exact problem with the reverse lock out plunger. It seems as thought the silver piece is no longer attached to the black rubbery piece.

For a temporary fix, I shoved some paper in between the 2 pieces. I am planning on putting a generous amount of silicone between the 2 pieces, once I get the chance to disassemble the shifter. Does that sound like it will work?

I think I read that also; something about using a lightbulb spring...I think.

I'm not sure. I think that I may hit up Home Depot and buy some rubber washers and see if that works. I just don't want the reverse lock out to stick if I do so.

I found the thread about the spring fix. He used the spring from a sprinkler head on the shift lever bottom, not on the reverse collar. This fix probably won't help for my rattle since it seems to be coming from the reverse lockout cable.

i have the same problem.... i just assumed it was a byproduct of the stiffer bushing. it is kind of annoying though.

I pushed in the cotter pin even further and it helped a little. I'm still brain storming a fix.

hi guys
what you might want to do is adjust the barrel on the cable underneath the car. after a while it can stretch and become loose.
just give it a half a turn and you should be nice and quiet.

its on the end where the shifter bushings are located. it works just like the cable adjusters on a bicycle brake.
