Question Need Advice on New Clutch

So I have been searching and reading threads about different clutch options, but still can't decide. I am hoping to find one that is street friendly but can take some moderate abuse. I plan on sticking with the stock flywheel and you can see the power I am putting down to the wheels in my sig.

I almost purchased the RPS Max MS-20STI-ST street disc w/ a tq capacity of 500 until the shop that was going to do the install said that RPS has quality problems??

They suggested the ACT SB4-HDSS street disc w/ 475 tq capacity but I have a feeling they are trying to push something off of their shelf.

I have also been looking at a Spec stage 3 but right now I don't know what the **** to buy

I guess I am looking for any real world advise based on personal experience to help with my decision. I am open to other options but don't really want to shell out 1.5k to 2k for a clutch unless it is my only option for a great set up.

TIA

well spec stage 3 looks really nice, it'll hold 530 lb/ft so it'll hold all the power you have + some. i really havn't heard anything bad about any of the spec clutches, just good things.

good luck

I have an act 6 puck, the one they're pushing you is the street disc. I like my 6 puck lol. Little harsh but i like it.

I have never driven with a 6 puck and a lot of my driving is city (stop light) driving. When you say it is a little harsh do you mean when you let the clutch out? I wish I could drive an Sti with a 6 puck for myself

As for the Spec stage 3, is it a 4 puck? I can't seem to find much info on that one. Is a 4 puck any different as far as streetability compared to a 6 puck. Uuugh, so many things to take into consideration.

Out of curiousity how long did your stock clutch last at those power/torque levels?
Thanks

I would still like people to chime in with any thoughts on their aftermarket clutch choice and how they like it so far.

The ACT SB4-HDSS will be much more streetable than the 4 or 6 puck. But if you run all that torque I don't think the street disc would last. If you avoid 4th and 5th gear pulls from low RPM you might be fine.

Another option is the Exedy twin plate with the flywheel. It's much more spendy, but you do get a flywheel too. It will hold just about anything and be more streetable than the ACT puck clutch. You can slip the Exedy twin plate for normal street driving.

This looks like an excellent option, but your right it is spendy at about $1500 I can't seem to find how much the flywheel that comes with the kit weighs?

When I clutch shopped I called the people at z1auto.com and mauromotorsports.com. Both were very helpful, and had lots of experiences with clutches.

My take on these three clutches:
Act Street - Reasonable street clutch if you don't use all that torque much. It might be enough depending on your driving habits - ask the vendors what they think.

Act Puck - Not very streetable but will hold the torque if you're going to bang on your car. A good value race clutch.

Exedy Hyper Twin - very streetable and will hold the power. Note that the Big Valley guys in Puerto Rico were running 10's with 700whp on this clutch. But you have to pay for having streetability and "raceability". Don't know the weight of the flywheel, though I'm pretty certain it is lighter than stock.

You might also think about the Spec, Clutch Master, and RPS clutches though they have more reputation issues. I have no experience with those, and it could all be gossip.
