IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | my drivetrain mods are JDM Spec-C DCCD 6mt with the use of the 3.90 modded rear r160. i believe the front diff. is a helical diff. i'm using a Neetronics DCCD unit to operate the DCCD in manual mode only. here's the weird thing. today i go out to run errands and i always hit this turnout pretty aggressive with the DCCD locked on 40%. when i turned DCCD off (open), the car did not even want to go forward at all. from a stop the car would just sit there while i hear the drivetrain whirring. so when i lock the DCCD anywhere past 30% the car drove fine with an occasional clunk on certain turns..depending on how hard and fast i turn. by this time i'm thinking the front or rear diff broke. so i stop at my cousins house to check it out and everything looked fine underneath the car. so i thought to myself i am screwed and will need a new diff. i go back home and drove carefully with the DCCD locked at 40%. again the car drove fine with occasional clunk when rolling from a stop or on certain turns. when i got near home coming to a stop, i turn the DCCD unit off and the car ran FINE with the diff. open. cdiff. open never gave me issues before. today was the first time i witnessed this. anyone have any idea with what's going on? edit: i forgot to add that on my cousin's driveway(kinda on a slight slope) when the center diff was off and the car was off in gear, it would roll. but when i locked the center diff. with the car off and in gear, it didn't go any where like normal. edit again: i went for a drive again and everything seems to be normal. i hit that same turn and it held up. could something be loose? i expect this to happen again since it's happened once. IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (4) | the problem occurred again, it again fixed itself and after parking her i disconnected the aftermarket DCCD unit. i go for another drive and the problem came back... luckily having the DCCD controller i plugged it back in and locking the centerdiff. got my car to move. running the the CD in open mode is still acting the same and has not fixed itself like before. so, it can't be the DCCD unit if the problem happened with the controller unplugged. someone out there has to know what is going on. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2003 Trader Rating: (3) | I'm not positive but it sounds like the center diff is wearing out. With low amounts of lockup it's not providing any coupling to the driveline (like a worn out clutch) but when you provide more clamping force (dial in more lockup) you get torque transfer. Does that sound like what is happening? FYI, there is a rebuild kit available from Subaru for this. Part number 390004S010. PDF info here http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/e/GRN/pa...010%20List.pdf |
