In the video the shifting looks no faster than any reasonable driver can do with the stock transmission. The throws are very long, much longer than mine with the TIC super shifter kit. In addition, how does one rev match on downshifts, is there a mid point in the throw?

Finally, even for those not interested in performance, it certianly would not improve the cosmetics of the interior in any way. Overall, I am not seeing any advantage to this.

it would be much niceer for drg racing, as long as ther person can shift faster, but unlike other trans. in cars i have driven, the subarus tranny doesnt like to be shifted fast . . i dont think it would be hard to rev match at all, and i do think it would help in the speed of changing gears . . im not a looks or ricey kinda guy . . i did come from the honda/ acura deal and ive seen them in honda race cars ( very big difference with a standard tranny then a subaru) and with the dog paw ( seq shifter) they were crazy with rev matching and speed shifting
when i rev match it give it gas very quickly and hard and it wont take any longer then normal downshifting with me

by the time im in the gear im in the right rpms to depress the clutch and be in that gear. .
but thats speed downshifting, if im downshifting to slow the car down from a light its very little gas and i take my time

i would like to have something that would makw the tranny be able to keep up to speed alittle better with me . . the shifting is good enough but nothing compared to my honda/acura experence

before anyone jumps on the hate honda/acura bangwagon this wasnt a stock car or even close by anymeans

Nope, definitely not DSG. When I had my GTi and was really into the VW scene, I read an article in European Car about a company that made sequential tranny's for the VR6's. It was like $20k though, which is more than the car is worth, so I don't know who would buy it. The DSG is only available in the US in the new GTi, TT 3.2, and A3.

I see the point of this quite clearly. It will speed shifts by creating 100% accuracy in getting it into the next gear. Ok, that's easy enough while drag racing, but now throw your car into a four wheel slide after ripping the e-brake, and THEN try to grab the right gear for the corner exit. I assure you that it's easier to imagine than do when you are simultaneously whipping the wheel for your countersteering.

This is not a modification for the week of heart when it comes to flogging the car, but I know that I would appreciate very much the abillity to literally slam the shifter foward on a downshift and know that I've got the right gear after doing so. Dropping from 2nd into 3rd accidently completely wipes your turbo spool out and screws up your line, plus you look like an asshat that can't drive - which is what it's really all about: Nobody wants to look like an asshat.

I wouldn't bother with it for anything less than serious autocross or rally oriented driving however.

Has anyone found out how much it costs or where to get one?? I would be interested in buying one. I think it would be great for auto cross or drag racing.

save your money. I've used it, it's obnoxious, and a royal PIA to install

I found this shifter for sale at www.wrc.gr.jp/launsport/imp06_2.jpg. It is close to $1600. Ouch that is expensive... Shipping is not included with that either. Let me know what you think??

are you talking about the sequential shifter or the paddles behind the wheel?

If you are doing enough racing to justify buying a sequential shifter you should probably just spring for the sequential transmission. If you cant afford the sequential transmission you probably shouldnt be racing in a $30k car.

The ultimate shifter is not short! I don't know why people think that a shifter needs to be short. The ultimate shifter has very short throws but is very tall! Why? In racing you want the shifter to be as close to the steering wheel as possible. In this manner, your hand only leaves the steering wheel for a moment. Stop thinking that short shifters are the 'shiznit'. They are not. It is just that the easiest way to decrease the throws on a shift mechanism is to decrease the height of the shifter. Otherwise, shifters would be very expensive because you would be replacing the entire mechanism and not just the stick.

Actually the best shifter is neither short nor long - it is totally application specific. Throw is really independant of shifter length - throw has everything to do with pivot point (fulcrum) of the lever you are moving. Personally, I cannot stand to drive a car where the shifter is immediately adjacent to the steering wheel - it gives my elbows cramps unless the trans tunnel is high enough to allow my right arm somewhere to rest (ala the original ST165 Celica All Trac - long shifter, but tall trans tunnel.

At one point my brother had a '04 EP3 Civic Si - shifter on the console. I could not stand how it sat as I found it terribly uncomfortable

Depends on your definition of throw. Simple geometry shows that when you decrease the height of the shifter then the throws get smaller. But, again, depends on your definition of throw. My definition is the distance between horizontally opposed gears when they are engaged (i.e. 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, etc). I can't say I understand the elbow cramps given that your hands should be on the steering wheel the entire time when racing anyhow (except for gear changes). For a good example check out the koenigsegg.

Default Re: IKEYA Formula Sequential Shifter

the shifter works good, takes a while to get use to. i have one that i'm selling for $1400. no one has one here in the states.. and only 3 companies in Japan have used it on there cars besides Ikeya.
it's not super high, higher then the original one but then the whole mechanism is big. you still have to use the clutch, but if you use dog teath then you pretty much have a real 6speed sequential tranny.
they were established in 68 and made a lot of racing products, and they make a lot of good suspension parts right now too.
if you have any questions regarding the shifter let me know. or if you want to purchase it.
you can email me at kshariloo@aol.com
