As far as "only works good at low speed" I wouldn;t be ripping through town on icy/snowy roads...so lock works great...just guzzles gas.
That wouldn't happen with the 06 in AUTO. Also I ment to use LOCK at less then 15 mph.

I can't post attachments, why not? Anyway I scaned the pages from my 06 maunual which specifically mentions the mechanical DCCD and that is different from 04 - 05 manual. If someone can tell me how to enable attachments for PM me your e-mail and I'll send you the pictures and you can post them.

No, if its snowing crazy lock is fine, cause the tires will slip. lock is bad when the tires have high traction. basically, when turning, something, whether diff or tires, must slip.

LOCK will cause you to understeer on snow covered roads. It's for extremely slow speeds and basically getting "unstuck." Just leave the DCCD in AUTO even on packed snow roads, untill you learn how it effects the car.

Better than crashing though.

Had my fun with the car in the morning though on my way to work with the setting to rear
Im having a problem with my tranny. I went to mammoth last month and was gonna drive in the lock position, and when I set it in lock my car wouldnt move. It felt like the brakes were locked or like I got stuck on a curb or big rock. I tried different settings but it still stayed locked. As soon as I set my e-brake I could feel it release. Then I knew it was my diff giving me the problem. I put the tranny back in auto and it worked fine. I dont usually drive in the snow so I dont really get many chances to test it out. Im curious if this has happened to anyone else. I've been checking the forums and I havn't found another problem like this yet. I would ask the dealership but they're a bunch of meat heads.

If it's working in AUTO & with the e-brake on but not in any of the manual settings, then it sounds like it might be a software or a switch problem. It didn't even work in full OPEN manual mode? What were the circumstances when you tried LOCK? Where you in a paved parking lot trying to make a 90 degree turn from a complete stop?

If i wanted to do donuts in the snow, should i put the DCCD all the way back in the middle or just leave it in auto. Is any setting more stressfull to drivetrain? Thanks.

04/05 does good donuts in manual/full open. (rear on dial) Actually, in snow, i don't think it would really matter in terms of stress. even lock should be able to do donuts.

I was in a parking lot with patches of ice on the ground. I was trying to back out of a parking spot. When I parked there I had it in auto. I didn't have a chance to turn the wheel, my car moved about six inches then it felt like the brakes were locked. The next day I decided to try it again. It had just snowed and the plows had been by so there was a soft layer of snow less than an inch thick. At a stop sign (after what happened the day before I wasn't about to switch while moving) I put the car in lock. As soon as I started to let the clutch out the drivetrain locked again and I couldn't move. It did the same thing in all other settings. Its never given me a problem before and I've used it in full lock and all other settings in rain, dirt and mud, all different steering angles and thottle positions, and its never made any type of popping or clicking sound that I've heard other people complain about. I guess she just doesn't like the snow.

Yikes. From this description I think it's pretty clear that you have something broken somewhere in the immediate vicinity of your DCCD. Take the car in and have it diagnosed, and let us know what they find.
