IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Car would not shift into gear... Today I was out at California Speedway for a film shoot. My STI was parked for a few hours. When I was leaving, I decided to make use of one of their huge empty parking lots. I drove around for a bit just to make sure she was warmed up. I took off across the lot... got into second gear and at about 50 mph I jerked it to the left into a nice 4 wheel power slide... corrected it and then swung it to the right... mmmmm fun... lots of smoke. I almost did a full 360 on the second slide.... I had a big grin on my face by now ;-) ...After the near 360, I was in neutral coasting to the exit of the lot. When I went to put it back in gear to leave, it would not shift into any gear. No strange lights on the dash. I turned the car off and back on twice. Still would not go into any gear. With the engine running and clutch depressed, when I pushed the shifter towards a gear, not forcing it, I could hear the tranny 'catching' a little bit. So, not to risk anything. I turned the car off and back on again and within about a minute or two after the initial horseplay, it slid into gear like normal and all was good. This was good timing as well for one of the track fire marshal guys was heading over to see what the hell I was doing. I took off and he turned around. FUN! Did I overheat the clutch? One of the Diffs? Is this some sort of computer thing telling me to stop screwing around? I drove the 70 miles back to LA with no issues. Thanks My car is a 2005 STI... no engine mods... just suspension tweaks... about 4600 miles This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | Any ideas? A buddy of mine was in a show called Maxim SuperCars (see link below, good stuff).. he was one of the interviewees. He said the same thing happened in the Lamborghini Gallardo when they were doing 4WD slides and burnouts. I guess it scared the **** out of them, they thought they broke the Lambo. I thought I broke my STI yesterday. Since they are both AWD, I assume this is a differential issue, not a clutch issue. Has this happened to anyone else? I searched all the forums and found nothing. ![]() http://www.maximonline.com/the_ride/...005/supercars/ |
