Default New Info!

I emailed Amsoil with the following question:
"Is the SVG oil compatable with a mechanical clutch type limited slip rear differential?"

Amsoil Response:

Thank you for contacting AMSOIL with your concerns.

In response to your inquiry, the SVG contains the additive required for use in limited slip differentials.

Thank you again for the opportunity to respond to your concerns. As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Byron Selbrede

I still say the fluid is not compatible w/a mechanical LSD. The LSD oil is mineral based whereas the Amsoil is petroleum based I believe. Just use the right stuff and you don't have to worry! In the guy's reply from Amsoil he said it's compatible w/LSD's but doesn't specify if it's ok for the mechanical type, which BHazel specifically asked him.

My subaru dealer gave me a part # of SOA635011. Is this the right fluid for the rear diff?

Is front diff fluid changing on a different schedule or harder to get to or what? I never hear much talk of that.

Do NOT use a 75-90 multigrade oil in the rearend. The specifications call for a straight 90 weight oil. The best bet is to utilize the stock SOA fluid or the Motul 90PA fluid. Period. Amsoil is 75-90. Redline is 75-90. Royal Purple is 75-90. Use a straight 90 weight.

I have the K0305Y0900 oil and the Amsoil SVG oil at the house.

There is atleast 6 guys here that have used the SVG oil with great results. Anyone here with bad results?

i am a big AMSOIL fan after seeing what it has done for my engine... one of my friends uses AMSOIL SVG 75-90 in his Evo and i believe they call for the same oil in their rear diff that our rear diff calls for...

i want to use AMSOIL in my diff but am waiting for this thread to grow a little more...

I just joined that club too and I'm going to the track to morrow here's my temporary fix: my fiance found a plug that fits (barely) so I'm thread locking it and screwing it in. I'll have to replace the bigger filler plug also (# 23 in the manual). I know it's sketchey but I think I'll be alright if I keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't leak. If you need to know the pn for the sensor fill plug (# 25 in the manual) is: 27043aa012 and subaruparts.com does have it. I feel like an idiot, I broke the #1 rule of working on cars: DON'T FORCE IT.
