Question- I only opened the pan plug. Do you all think I emptied most of the fluid and gunk out- or is it time to do the tranny change again the correct way?

I dunno, if it were me I would do it again - but I am anal about stuff like that. How much new oil were you able to get into the tranny? That should give you a good indication of how much you got out. You might also search for some diagrams or info on the internals of the tranny - that might clue you in as to why there are 2 plugs. I'm not really sure myself...

On that day- I got 4 qts in (to a bit above the full marker). I did jack her up in the rear and let it drain for 1 hour or so during the change. I drove it a few days, and checked it again, and was a bit below the low marker when hot. I added .3 more last night.

I will check it tonight to see what it looks like once it mixes in. BTW- no leaks I can see, I think the Shockproof is just stuck to the walls of the tranny.

My main reason for doing it again would be to see what that magnetic plug looks like.

Maybe I'll change it again in a few weeks. I can treat this like a "flush" I guess.

you know what- i might have been "low" because I was checking on an incline. I also might have been "high" because I filled her with the rear end a bit higher to drain the oil...

i might be having fun tonight draining some oil out...

i swear, i seem to always do everything wrong when it comes to my car.

Hehe - I know how you feel. I had to syphon some oil out bc I overfilled it slightly when I changed mine. Working with this oil is such a mess...spilled some on my vans and they were ruined, and I stunk : (

I'm sorry I don't know better myself, but I changed the fluid in the front and rear differentials and the transmission. I used Motul Gear 300 for all three. I did not remove the entire top filler plug. Instead I used a hand pump to pump exactly one liter of Gear 300 into the rear diff. The hole was plenty large enough.

The concern I have is:

I filled the trans with 4 liters of Gear 300. I checked the dipstick--it reads almost to the top of the flattened portion of the dipstick (above full, by about 1/8th to 1/4 inch). Doing this, does it fill just the tranny, or the front diff, too?

the tranny and front diff(s) all share the same fluid.

you have overfilled your tranny. when i added more b/c i was low, i added too much. i had to syphon out about 1/4 to 1/2 pint.

i have read that an overfilled tranny is bad because the oil is prone to getting bubbles. when it gets bubbles, there is less lubrication, which is obviously bad.

as I have been told, you should take out small amounts until you are in the lines.

75w90 Valvoline Dino Oil (Napa)

I went to NAPA and found that no one seems to know anything about this oil, The guy at the counter called Valvoline direct and they said it is from a different company now if someone can point me in the right place to find this and what is the right name and maybe a picture of the bottle of oil that would help me(but the right place to get it would be better)......thanks Kevin

So I just called my local stealership and checks on the parts availabliity for the crush washers, and I gave him the part # for the oil pan side gasket and he said he didn't have any in stock. He asks me what I'm doing and he said it was wierd I gave him that part # because he's never stocked them and that they do trans fluid changes all of the time and no one has had to use that particular part #.

Solbergfan apparently had the same problem, although the guy I talked to was competant, so I wonder which washers they are actually using on these when they do fluid changes???

I ordered the washer and they're gonna call me when it comes in. I checked AllData and those are the same #s I got, so that's what I ordered.
