IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | I got the whole package from Turninconcepts, and got it really quick in the mail, I think it was at my house in like 3 days no joke, great guys. I just had the stuff installed. Great feeling, love the way it shifts through all gears, and love the way it sits, being that its lower than my STi short throw shifter. Ok, heres the questions........1st. Right about the allen key looking part of the reverse lock out ring, just to give you an idea where, it feels like it "clinks" when I shift into gears, if I hold it with my fingers, no sound......should it make those sounds? This pic may help, this is not what it looks like now, just using this pic as a reference: I feel that it may having the slightest spacing causing it to move a lil.....2nd. When I go to pull the reverse lock out ring to go into reverse, I hear a lil "zippppppp", I remember the stock shifter never made a sound, but this one makes a lil sound, like the outside of the lever is "grooved" with lil ringed bumps, kind of hard to explain. So, is all this normal? I don't mind the "ziippppppppppp" sound when going into reverse, any way to make that "clink" go away when I shift through gears, I am positive it is because of the slightest bit of slack with the reverse lock out ring and the shifter lever.....thanks, and I recommend this for anyone looking to get rid of the notchy/rubbery feel of the stockers.....thanks again! This ad is not endorsed by this member. | Authorized Vendor | unscrew the shift knob, put some grease on the end of a q-tip and grease the inside of the lever near the lug at the end of the lock out cable. Give it a couple of days to spread around and that should take care of the zip sound. You might also want to check the plate for the shifter surround for the clink noise. It's under the plastic console, and holds the rubber boot in place. A common fix is to turn the plate 180* or just file/grind a bit off to get some better clearance. Here's a link to the lever install on scoobymods that shows what I'm talking about: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3785 |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | You refering to the white lithium grease to fix that zipping sound? I played around with it, and that clinking noise seems to be coming from the reverse lock out area right above that allen key thing. It doesn't clink when I hold the reverse lock out while shifting.......So should I still try that second thing you said to do? |

| Authorized Vendor | yes, I am talking about some lithium grease (or any grease for that matter). In that case of the clink sound, no don't try that second thing. It sounds like you need a little bit of pretension on the cable. Two things to check under the car. 1) make sure they used the second zip tie to hold the cable against the stay so it doesn't rub on the driveshaft. This is commonly overlooked. it probably won't affect the clink sound, but you may as well check it as long as you are under there. You don't want it too tight or with any sharp bends, but you do want it so it won't rub. 2) To add a bit of pretension to the cable you will need to adjust it a little. It adjusts like the brake cables on a bicycle, and the adjuster is on the washer for the front stay. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | Thanks alot for replying....I will buy some grease today and apply it around the area you told me......So, I guess I have add a bit of pretension to the cable.....this adjuster, where exactly is it....the shop I had it installed is about 25 miles from my house...maybe I can just tighten it up myself.....if you can, can you post a pic of where the adjuster is....and how to get to it...I watched them do it...but don't know where/what they are all called....this is why I try and watch and learn...thanks alot! |

| Authorized Vendor | it's attached to the washer for the front stay. you can see it in this pic (front stay has the gray bushing in it). The easiest way to do it is to pull the cam for the lockout back JUST A LITTLE WAYS and then tighten the cable to take up the slack. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | Oh, ok, that picture helps, I should tighten it clock-wise right (the piece that has the small hole-cylinder type looking thing, right?)....and when do I know when to stop tightening it? Thanks again for the help! |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | You are the best. The grease made the zipping sound duller, and will prob take care of it totally, and it even took care of that clinking, I checked and they did use that second zip-tie.....I will check the tension later...but thanks alot...you are really great to have helpe me out! |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (30) | The Rear Clunk Killer basically will eliminate that popping sound you would hear when you do a hard shift with high revs. I used to hear it in the back when I would "floor" it and slam it into 4th. TurninConcepts.com thats where I got mine, and they are great people! The parts cost like $70 I believe. The shop is in Brick Town, NJ. I take exit 89 off the Parkway South, here is the website: http://precisiontuning.com/ The owner is Rich, call them up and he can help you out with anything. Good luck. If you have any more questions send them my way. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
