IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2004 | I ran Silkolene Syn 5 in my tranny and Silkolene BOA 90 LS in my rear diff for 15,000 miles on my 2004 STi. No problems at all and shifted perfectly. It's the only synthetic gear oil I would use in my car. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2006 | I just had 2 liters of Subaru 90W LSD oil delivered yesterday. I'll have an extra bottle on hand for another rear diff change. Thank goodness for this informative thread. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 | I am about to purchase the Subaru rear diff fluid for a change myself. I did happen to find valvoline 75w90 non-synthetic at a Napa in my area and replaced that on Monday. Went very well and no problems after a week of driving. I changed it out at 16,200 miles on my 05 STi and the oil was not black yet, but just that really dark gold. This is with autocrossing it hard the whole last year I have had it. The tranny fluid change is quite easy except for getting the oil into the tranny. Not much room for the bottle to fit into the filler hole. |

| S204 Racer Feedback Score: 12 reviews | rankink, I'm planning the exact same with about the same mileage. I am in no hurry since I know that I'm probably good until about 30K. I may hold onto the tranny oil and diff oil and do it come spring before AutoX season. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2004 | GearboxTech recommended that I use lightweight shockproof in the transaxle and MT-90 in the rear. I switched per their recommendation and the car drives and shifts smooth as ever. I figured Gearboxtech/Andrewtech would know what to use as they tear these things apart every day and actually showed me opened up transmissions with the shockproof sticking to the gears and walls of the case. |

You are correct. 30k, but since I do drive the car very hard I figured it could not hurt. | |
