thanks for the reply. That is a very important point.
I think maybe my post was a little too harsh. Probably over dramatized on my part. Either slow shifting or fast, i find the gates between 1-3-5 to be too wide.
When i come up from second, i hit/rub the gate between first and third.
In my old 5spd wrx I very rarely missed the "third" shift, and it was only when i was rushing it. WIth this new 6spd I was hoping a bushing set would help my situation. But i'm unsure if the bushing sets work with an 06.
Any other tips for shifting Bruce?

1 and 3 is very narrow, battle. that's why you don't want to "find" it. 5th is a longer throw and requires more effort. if you fell like the 1/3 is as wide as the 3/5, youre working way too hard on the 1/3.

we ought to get one of the guys who actually know what theyre talking about to help.

You're working to hard at trying to nail 3rd, and in doing so you're pushing the stick over just a little too hard which causes the hangup on the gate. Most of the time this is caused by excitement, but that ususally the worst time for it to happen. The stick goes over a little too easily because of the side to side slop in the shifter. For what it's worth what you are describing is EXACTLY the problem we were having, and what led to the development of our shift linkage bushings.

To answer your question - the 04-05 linkage bushings will not fit the 06. We are working on the 06 fix.

5) Make sure you have grease inside the lever for the lug at the end of the lockout cable. Unscrew the shift knob, take a q-tip with some grease on the end, and smear it around down in there. Give it a couple of days to spread inside the shaft.
6) Make sure the cup for the ball at the end of the lever is fully seated, and that the snapring is fully seated in the groove.
7) Make sure it's not the lockout pull rattling. When you hear the noise try lifting on the lockout pull very slightly. If that fixes it, then you need to add a little bit of pretension to the cable. The adjuster is on the washer for the front stay, and adjusts like a bicycle brake cable.
8) Make sure you reused the foam donut thingie (sorry, that's the best way I can describe it) from the stock shifter. It sits on that flat "washer" on the lever below the spring for the lockout pull.

I think that might be everything to check, but if I remember more I'll put it on here.

there are a couple of ways you can get them out - push from the inside with a screwdriver or pull them out by the flange. The technique I have been using lately is to use a knife to get under the edge of the flange and then pry around the bushing, pulling it out little by little. Just be sure not to cut the bushing when you do this.
