IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (2) | Hey, I was wondering if anyone has a grind while shifting from 4th to 5th? This is only when I am on it and above 6000 rpms. I know it has to be the synchroes or however u spell it but it happened to me everytime at the dragstrip wednesday. Does anyone else have this and is there a cure? It catches me off guard since I rarely drive that hard into 5th, but just about every time it's the same old story, a little bit difficult to get 5th to catch, and there is always a quick grind if the shift occurs above ~5700rpms. I'm curious if a slower shift into 5th will get rid of it, since I'm usually shifting hard/fast when it happens. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | How are you guys "quick shifting" into 5th? Do you push to the right and up to get it to go into 5th or do you pull it forward to centre, then right and then up? I've never had the 5th gear grind though I do notice more resistance when trying to shift using the first method. The only difficulty I've noticed with 5th is the occasional "rejection" - shifter won't go into 5th, but no grind. After getting a few rejected attempts to go into 5th, I've just started shifting slightly slower and since then have had about 10K km without any difficulties. Try changing your shifting technique and see if that helps... |

| Professional STI Racer | i just slam it . im on my 2nd time this has happened. first time warranty replaced it for 900 bucks. now that im more modded...im kinda weary what SOA will say, but if they want to keep putting these weak ass gears in and breaking easily, change the method and wont have to replace as much. I'll go back in when the warranty miles are gettin up there more. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2004 Trader Rating: (3) | I had the 4th-5th gear grind at high rpms. I found a subaru dealership in Huntington, WV that pulled the tranny and sent it to SOA, syncros were replaced under warranty. My car only had 2500 miles on it and there were no mods at the time. 16k later and it's perfect, and it's been to the dragstrip many times. SOA knows about this problem, so take it to the dealership and try to get it fixed under warranty. |

| dances with roads | The '06 STi reportedly has carbon plated synchros on 4th, 5th, and 6th gears. If you do get them done you might want to try to get them to put the new pieces in. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
