Lightbulb How to replace power steering fluid (procedure inside)

So today I decided to replace my power steering fluid with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF ... at 24,500 miles

Procedure was like this:

1.- Bought a pump thing for $6.00 in PepBoys
2.- Bought a quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF (Dexron III compliant), for $8 ..

3.- With the car off, I sucked off as much of the oil I could with the pump:

4.- With the car OFF (don't turn the car on because the power steering pump needs lubrication when it's running!)... I turned the wheel lock to lock several times, in an attempt to drain out the old oil ... Sucked out the rest with the pump.

5.- Refilled to the top line with the new ATF fluid.

6.- Turned the car on, turned the wheel lock to lock several times ...

I repeated steps (3) through (5) three times ...

Steering seems to have less effort with the new fluid.

Thought I'd share with you guys. I like all my stuff synthetic ...

that's not the proper way to bleed the system. you still have non-synthetic in there if you only tried to remove the erxisting fluid through the refill tank.

see here: from the manual

yep, it's called the pipe joint in the manual. but just select one of the connections on the green cylinder in between the two rubber bellows devices. open one up and let all the old stuff drain - and turn the wheel lock to lock a few times.

then tighten it back up and fill and repeat the turning lock-to lock stuff.

then turn the engine on and repeat the turning until steering is uninterupted while going lock to lock.

you'll likely also have to drive her and repeat this to get all the air out - i did. just make sure the tank is topped off before driving out.
