| Spec C Club | Hello everyone. I have an 05 sti, with just over 4k on it. I have never done any street racing or any launches but my clutch feels weird. It engages almost at the top.. maybe i am just used to it, i have tried all the tricks, IE go at 2500 rpm in 5th and floor it and see if RPMS climb and not speed.. no both go up at a good rate.. just not sure. do your guys clutches engage so late? thanks, maybe i am just nervous. IWSTI Addict since: May 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I just turned 12,000 miles on my 05. My clutch used egage pretty low, below half way. After a few passes at the track my clutch engages almost at the top. From the smell I'm pretty sure I burnt the clutch pretty good. [hijack]When should I replace it? When the clutch begins to slip during daily driving? Any thoughts on going to the dealer (under warranty) or aftermarket?[/hijack] |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2002 Trader Rating: (12) | I disagree. I'm at 54,xxx miles, 45,000 of those with the AP stg 2, full exhaust, etc. Numerous drag visits and several track days. Mine engaged at the top of its travel when new, and continues to engage at the same place. Never even a single sign of slippage (although it has ALWAYS had a small amount of shudder when first taking off from a stop in the morning). My .02 |

| Amateur STI Driver | People have different ideas about what the engagement point is. I.e. even on the same car people would place it differently. The clutch *is* a pedal, not an on/off switch so the determination is a bit subjective. I place it where in about 5th gear at 45mph with about 1/3 throttle how far I have to press before it runs away. It's only about 2 inches depressed. I tend to think the STi is a bit high in the pedal travel. Sure it starts to have a tiny bit of friction right off the floor, but not enough to do anything but crawl gridlock in 1st gear.
