| Amateur STI Driver | My 05 JDM sti has done 5,000 miles. It had just started making odd clunking/binding noises. Only ever used to get a similar thing on hard lock at slow speed in tight turns, now it's happening when moving backwards or forwards very slowly with or without the clutch engaged. First noticed it when I would pull up to a slow stop say at traffic lights and roll to a stop, binding noises coming from front or back. This happens in a straight line without turning the wheel on any degree of lock. If I allow the car to roll forwards very slowly I get a rotational clunk every so often. It's doing my head in - any ideas ? If this is just normal diff/tranny noise - it's really going to pi## me off. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

So you get these noises in auto mode? That's definitely not normal. | |

| Junior STI Driver | I have the same problem. One of the Subaru mechanics that I consulted said that it has something to do with some turning bearing, and that it was normal. He had completely replaced the diff of another owner who had the same problem, and the noise was even louder on the new piece. My noise was actually worse when it was cold with snow outside but it has since improved. Now i just have to again fix that damn rear clunking strut that was supposedly fixed. |

| Amateur STI Driver | Hey guys, Got my car late last saturday. I first noticed the same noises when I parked my car (locked sttering to right). It became more obvious to me as the weekend passed. I brought the car to the Shop monday, got it back Thursday. The dealership said the noises are not normal and they replaced the rear end. It still makes the noises some, but less obvious. I have a thread at nasioc.com, and a member there suggested STI diff bushings and tranny mounts. Here's the link. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...91#post9247291[/url] |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | I have a stock '05 and I get a binding noise from the back end while taking tight turns from a stop (making a 90 degree right turn from a stop sign). This is with the DCCD set to Auto. I'm guessing it's the center diff binding, but I have no idea. The car only has 2000 miles on it. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | On auto I dont have any noises like this. I get the usual brake knock and rear strut clunk but I dont have any tranny noises in auto. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
