Default Rear end clunking?

it started off easy and i noticed it from time to time, then it progressively got worse and worse. not i hear it any time i get on or off the gas. it sounds like a U joint issue, i jacked it up and there was no play in the DS or axles. so now its down to the rear end about to blow up, or shot bushings/mount on the rear diff. the car has 36k on it, and its not babied. i noticed it like two months ago and not its to the point where i am just waiting for something to snap. if i'm just driving and tap the gas for a second, i hear it when the power hits, then again when i let off. sounds to me like a ready to blow rear, but i'm hoping someone will tell me its just the bushings and be right.

after i posted, i knew i should have added that in. they were just replaced and its deff related to the throttle and not suspension. i jacked the car up and rotated the wheel back and forth and heard a slight clunking from the tailshaft of the tranny. has anyone had problems with the teeth wearing out somehow? at this point i want to just take it to the track and launch it so something with break and i can just fix it and move on.

It is totally possible that the rear-dif is blown...change the oil out and look for metal shards or chunks of metal in the oil. Good luck.

well, i am now stumped. the clunk is gone. maybe the rear was loose in the bracket somehow and me jacking it up put it back in place? i was planning on changing all the fluids, i just have to order the good stuff and hope TIC gets their rear end klunk kit back in stock soon and hopefully the noise never comes back.

check the exhaust hangers too. Over time they get soft and dont hold strong. They can let the muffler hit the heatshield in the back and make a clunk. Just shake you tip as hard as you can, you might hear the dreded noise. Good luck!

Another possibility to search on is the Rear Axle Nuts. When bad, you'll get a cluck sound when you cahnge the acceleration rate such as when shifting, quickly letting off the gas, going into reverse, etc. I had this problem and it has completely gone away once the nuts were replaced.
