Default Engine reving high at 3.3k+ RPM

Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere else.

So my problem is that at arround 3k rpm, where the turbo normally begins to do its work, the engine suddenly spikes in revs to about 7k or so. The feeling is the same as if the clutch was depressed during a hard pull. There is no feedback to the tires, and speed stays the same, but suddenly the rpms spike. Normally I would just peg it as the clutch going out, but testing the 6th gear, go from 20 mph thing I have no problems.

So in any gear, when I hit about 3k+ rpm, the engine revs like I hit the clutch, but the clutch doesnt seem to be going out.

I dont track the car, nor do I race.

Thoughts? Help? Before I throw myself on the mercy of the mechanic?

Thanks.

put the car into 6th gear and floor it. If the RPM's spike your clutch is going out. Sounds to me like its slipping.

Sorry, guess I should have made this clear heh. I did this as soon as it started (pulled over into a parking lot like lol). Nothing. No RPM spike or anything from being in 6th and flooring it. So I am puzzled.

Thanks for the response though.

Thanks for the luck Bue car

It's the clutch.

6th at 20 mph I doubt would be making enough power to slip the clutch.

Depends on the mods on the car.

If you don't have any I bet you could get a free one... but probably only one so be careful with how you drive.

How many miles on the car?

No mods at all.

Right at 31000 miles.

It's worth a shot. 31k seems a little bit higher that what they might replace do to defect, but I don't know.

The worst that could happen is that you'll have to buy a new clutch... which isn't that big a deal.

Subaru covers all wear items under the 3yr/36K warranty. As long as you dont have any mods and do not abuse the car, (ie. hard launches, poor driving habits) then they will cover your brakes, clutch, tires, wiper blades, etc...) Just go in and have them check it out.

good luck.

Hit the highway/freeway. Go about 65/70 MPH and then floor it in 6th. If your RPM's spike, your clutch is slipping. When your clutch slips it usually effects the higher gears first. That being said, since you have a 07 with under 36k miles I would just goto the dealership and have it warranted.

Thanks so much for the replies. I checked it at 6th going faster, and yah, its more of the same. So I will take it in to Subaru, get some use out of the warranty.

Thanks
