Default Tranny drop/replace. How long did it take?

Just wondering how long it took you guys to drop your STi tranny and then reinstall it. Also let me know if you were working with air tools, standard tools, lift or jackstands.

I'm trying to figure out if it is worth the effort of swapping out a tranny from a totalled 04 sti into my sti which has a grinding 5th gear. Thanks.

Took me roughly 7 hours to do my clutch install with a lift and air tools. I personally wouldn't do it with out a lift. The hardest part for me was separating the tranny from the motor. Took 2 big prybars with a tranny jack to get it off.

If you know what you're doing, you can have the trans off in under an hour. There isn't much to it really. Air tools won't do you much good either due to the location of the bolts.

Air tools work good when you have wobble sockets!

if i remember right, 06 front shafts are not the same as 04's. Not only that but the transmission itself is a downgrade. The 06 had upgraded syncros compared to the 04-05.

Took me about 2 hours, 2 people with air tools and jack stands

I just did it to replace my clutch.

jack stands only(no lift)
total time for removal and reinstall 10 hours. No air tools,by myself

I've seen it done in under 5 with a lift and someone who's done it before.

I have done numerous trany and motor pulls. If you dont run into any problems ( difficult separation or brake-strip a bolt ) it should only take 2-3 hours with clutch install. If you have problems 4+ .....those estimates are on jack stands

Dont forget to separate the lower ball joints for extra room to pop the axles!!
