Default After market rack&pinion options?

2004 STi 125,000 miles original owner. Car was on the lift and found a leak in the Rack and Pinion. Fluids were fine at the time. FYI, fresh leak, not sure if it was caused by a tree branch that I ran over about the same time.

My search on this topic was no help.

OEM part costs around $650 to replace. Is there anything to gain from this when I replace the part? i.e. any after market upgrade's etc?

Thanks,

Todd

There is a shorter rack called a Q-rack, comes in two ratios I believe and runs around $1600. Other than that I think your only other option is oem.

FYI, I am in Fort Worth. Anyway, what would I gain over the OEM from the Q-rack. Better feel? Less weight or stronger?

I am going to do a search and thanks for the info

I have a Q-rack. The rack is not stronger or lighter. It is quicker, I got the 11.5:1 ratio rack. There is better feel and it seems to take slightly more effort (less boosted feel). I got the rack with the solid mounts and the combination of the faster ratio and the immediate response offered from the solid mounts is fantastic. Easily one of the best mods I have done.
