Angry Is the dealership effing me?

bad syncros. it seems like a common problem among 04-05 sti's since ive been looking at all these forums. Ive got 54k on my sti and a horrible grind when i shift into 4th so i figured i need to get this fixed and i should do it before i hit 60k. the guy at the dealership starts saying that "because it is an sti" that i had to agree to sign an estimate saying that if the problem isn't covered by the warranty that i would have to pay all parts and labor and in order to diagnose the problem that i would have to sign. i feel like i've been backed into a corner because this is a business and businesses are in it to make money but there is a chance that the warranty will cover this since i am confidant that it is not my driving that caused this problem. well it turns out that it is my problem or so THEY say. i just feel like i am really getting Funked by theses guys. It really makes me mad that "because it is an sti" they are trying to squeeze more money out of me. they said that it is subaru policy to treat sti's different cause "its a race car." well they wanna charge something like 2100 to fix this. i can't sleep cause i am so pissed right now. i feel like there is no one on my side at this damn dealership. I had gone in before for this same problem and they replaced my clutch and called it fixed. i had to pay 1500 for that. sorry for such a long post but i am extremely angry at this whole situation. what should i do about this? i dont think i should have to pay for this.

Is there another Subie dealership around you? If you explain to them what the first stealership was saying/doing they may take care of you better to make you a repeat customer. It worked for me on my Buick. The first dealership was yanking my wife around, I went in and did the manly thing and threw down some car knowledge on them. I would work on the car myself but I don't have the time. Even if I did have the time it would be ever other week because it's a GM. After a year I my wife take it to the GM place by her work and they took extra care of us. I get a call every month from the first dealership asking me what they did wrong and how they can get me to come back. I'm honest and straight forward so I always tell them I'll never return, to remove my info from their system, and to stop taking advantage of women. I had to raise holly hell at a Toyota shop once because they charged my wife time and material for a fan belt, it was front wheel drive with an electric fan! After they found out the boyfriend, we weren't married yet, knew his sht they dropped the whole labor charge on the other repairs.

Did they give you a specific reason that it is your fault?? I had the exact same issue with my 4th gear in my 04, and the stealership told me that I would be liable for the diagnostic work if it turned out that it would not be covered under warranty.

Oh and for them to deny a warranty claim they have to get a Subaru Rep involved. A lot of shady stealerships will try to bypass this process and tell people that it isn't covered. You can actually request to speak to the Subaru Rep personally and discuss why your claim was denied.

I would PM BlackFang if you need advice. He's a Subaru Service Writer and should have some advice for you. Also I would see if one of the mods could move this thread into the Warranty section of the General forum.

Mine was actually covered. It turned out that my 3rd to 4th gear syncro was bad as well as my 4th to 5th gear syncro. They wound up replacing the syncros and 4th, 5th, and 6th gears themselves. I think the bill came out to 6,000 in parts and labor, but it was free for me!

Just to remove the trans from the car pays 8 hours, plus to tear the trans apart pays another 8 hours. So if they determine that it is not under warranty you will wind up paying 32 hours of labor in total for the removal and re-install of the trans.

But what exactly did your stealership tell you? Have they taken the car in and pulled the trans?

they gave me a quote of 1350 or some where around that number. yes they have already pulled the tranny and gears. i was so confidant that the warranty would take care of it so i agreed to sign the estimate. I went back today to try to get some clarification as to why its not covered and they told me that if there is any gear damage, which i guess there is, that it would not be covered. I wrote a message to subaru at their website and i got a reply today saying that they would contact the delership. i hope someone is on my side. the guy working on my car said that the damaged gear policy is somewhat recent. when was your car serviced?

something is missing here, they never gave you a reason why it isnt covered?
your bone stock right? otherwise they might be trying to scare you away with talk of "warrenty voiding" mods.

I've got a k&n typhoon and a turbonetics raptor bov. they did try to scare me by saying that the bov adds horse power. i tried explaining that it doesn't but the guy insisted that it did. anyways yeah i know if does feel like something is missing. thats why i'm not letting this die down. i need to know exactly why this is.

lol yeah the BOV is causing you to have less power, that would be a funny argument, although id take it off if you dont want issues with the engine further down the road
