Now if you have a tuned stage 2 that is not going to be enough as most people are making somewhere around 310-325 wtq. Again take into account drivetrain loss, but calculating flywheel torque capacity (using 310wtq) you will need a clutch that will hold 413 ft/lbs at the flywheel. If the Exedy Stage 1 is an upgrade and it is not substantial enough, think how inadequate the stock equipment is to handle a tuned stage 2 STi....just some food for thought.

I have the Exedy stage 1 on my car which is protuned stage 2. The car makes just under 300whp, but makes 370wtq. I'd say the clutch has about 7k miles on it at that level of tune. I've launched it maybe a handful of times b/c I don't want to kill it. I am slightly concerned that if I take the car up another level perhaps with a 20g or a Green, that the clutch is bye bye. Having driven the car with a stock clutch and stage 2 tuning, I would be apprehensive about leaving that clutch in there. But other people have had results that say otherwise.Just my .02

No offense taken, the first thought usually is driver error, but for the 14k I've driven it I think I've been easy on the clutch. No hard launches, no sitting at a light in first gear w/ the clutch in, no resting my foot on the pedal, etc. I always rev match, double clutch, and generally try to drive smoothly.

I think it was a combination of descending from 7000 ft. to sea level that day (engine braking) followed by sitting in 90+ degree LA traffic that warped the clutch enough to damage it. It's not worn down (e.g. slipping), it's just messed up badly and the feel is all wrong. I just would think it would be tougher. I'm mostly mad b/c I don't have the money to fix it right now (student) .

That and my friend in his 07 STi did the same drive w/ me and didn't have any problems.

I am just here to spit out numbers. Numbers don't lie when I comes down to how much the clutch is rated at and how much of that is applicable to various power outputs of differing stage 2 and stage 2+ tunes. However, people do tend to embellish and create extravagances of their driving habits with relation to brand-X clutch holding xxx-wtq.....this is more of a generalization on my part and not directed to anyone specifically. Clutches want to grab and over time with a torque power number higher than its rated than the frictional resistance of the assembly lessens and lessens until....well it ain't got no mo to give. Don't forget that the more power that you make the stronger the clutch you need and with that the clutch engagement is going to become less and less comfortable.

I have a 20G on my 06 STi which is putting 350hp/370tq. to the ground. I only have a little over 13,000 miles on it, but my clutch feels fine. However, I'm 51, and I don't launch, race ( except by myself ), autocross, or anything else that's hard on it. Most times, if the clutch makes it through tune on the dyno, it will be fine.
