Default Is this a grind?

Allright, I've gotten more comfortable with my car and have been flooring it and from 3rd to 4th it seems as if I am grinding when I go to red line. I was seeing if it was just me, had a very experienced friend drive it and he thought it was a grind too but the passengers felt it in the rear of the car. Pulling straight back from 3rd to 4th i feel resistance and then it makes a weird clunk sound with vibration through the knob while the shifter goes into place. Once again it is only shifting at around red line from 3rd to 4th. My friend grinded 3rd gear but I think it was his own fault while testing.

Does anyone know what this is?

Sounds like you might be letting the clutch out a tad too soon. Try and keep the clutch in longer next time you shift and see if that helps. I usually powershift when i'm shifting at high rpms, and I havnt had any grinds yet.

Possibly a syncro problem? If you still are under warantty I would take it in and have them check it out. Just don't tell them you take it to 7K and shift, they like to be assh*oles and deny warantty work on STi's because they think its abuse to drive the car at 7K. Dont get me wrong I take my car to 7k all the time, its soo much fun!

haha well i just took it out and it was fine. I was shifting kinda fast but not racing fast at about 7k. Two runs I did from 3-4, felt the resistance a lil but didn't feel like a grind at all. I probably just have to take it easy on 3-4 because the syncro will probably be an upcoming problem.
