Default New clutch..

so i got a new clutch. warrantied. and it feels much, much, much lighter than the original one. it feels like a bmw clutch when my old one felt..well heavier. i have nothing to compare it to sorry, but the difference is pretty stark.

Now question: pedal pressure is a result of the pressure plates clamping force correct..so stock clutch for stock clutch..should feel similar, right? Why doesn't mine.

Mostly, but it is also in conjunction with the clutch master cylinder, clutch line and slave cylinder. If there is an air bubble in the clutch line, that could be causing a weaker feeling. Also if there is a leak in the either of the cylinders or the line, but thats probably not it since all they did was remove the slave cylinder from the bell-housing. Thats kind of weird though, you would think it would feel stronger. Is there anything else as far as feel? Also, there is a little spring that attaches to the top of the clutch fork, that sort of assists the slave cylinder and provides a little resistance on the clutch fork when you push the clutch in. Its not very big and its not very strong. If the dealer forgot to put that back on then there could be a lighter clutch feeling....don't know for sure, but its just a guess. The only other thing that I could think of is that the tech who installed your clutch did something else wrong.

I was just at a dealership this week with tranny issues and the tech said that a heavier pedal is actually a sign of the clutch going south. So a new clutch will have a lighter feel when compared stock to stock. I believe it has to do with heat on the pressure plate actually making the clutch feel heavier over time.
