Default grinding 4th on down shift any suggestions?

hello STi experts! i have a minor problem, when going through the gears 1-6 i have no problem(or grinding) shifting, but when i down shift from 5th or 6th into 4th gear it grinds but still slips into 4th gear; any idea why it would be doing this? if im in 6th gear and i depress the clutch put it in 3rd(still holding the clutch) and then put into 4th gear it does not grind, but from 5th or 6th into 4th it grinds.

if it starts getting worse and worse its the syncro, i had mine go out at 36000 and replaced all my syncros with carbon plated ones since my 04 didnt have them. While i was at it i got hardened JDM gears and billet shifter forks

I had the same problem. Switched to Motul gear oil and it went away...

forget your syncros, unless your under warranty thats some serious cash.

I heard Motul "revitalizes" the syncros. If it still occurs after tryinng the Motul i suggest replacing the syncros. Mine got to the point where i can slip it into fourth but the second i apply any throttle it would fly out and grind, after if i just let out the clutch fourth wouldnt even stay in.

Replace your syncros under warranty and give Subaru the motul to put in.

As I've posted here, I have exactly the opposite problem on a new 08 STI: when I upshift from 3rd the 4th, and only then, I have a very occasional grind ("very occasional" = once every several days, where a typical day might be around 75 miles or so, many on back roads).

My dealer replaced the gear oil with the Subaru Extra-S, and that seemed to help -- some. Before that change I was getting the grind a couple of times a day; now, about 1000 miles later, I'm getting it only every couple of days.

I understand that its probably a synchro problem if it gets worse, but what if it doesn't get worse? Should I try the magic Motul? Also, the problem is that Subaru is not going to replace the synchro, or even tear down the transmission to look, in less they can experience the problem for themselves, but this will be hard given the infrequency of the problem. Not sure what, if anything, to do....

so does that kit just come with parts for 5th and 6th? and is sounds like the highspeed kit comes with 2nd-6th?

none of that helps my 1st gear syncro problem
