Default Clutch slipping / my options..

Over the past week or so I've noticed that my clutch has been acting a bit strange. Today it was the most prominent that it has been. When I'm shifting, let's say from 2nd to 3rd, the power hesitates, and the revs rise momentarily. I'm pretty sure my clutch is on its way out... I'm going to try the "6th gear test" tomorrow as well.

However, I don't want my car to be down long, if in fact my clutch decides to take a crap on me. So I'm beginning my preliminary investigation into aftermarket clutches. I've done a few searches, and have come across a clutch in particular that I like a lot - the RPS MAX series. RPS MAX Series Any more opinions on which one would best suit me (stage 2 protuned right now, but plan on 30r within 6-8 months)?

Also, if I do replace/upgrade the clutch, what should I do about the flywheel?? I've heard of people resurfacing them, getting lighter ones etc. I'm not too concerned with the driveability of my set-up, so a light weight one wouldn't really bother me.

Also, I realize that the RPS and equiv. clutches will have a much stiffer pedal feel, and really like that. But at the same time, I don't want my leg to cramp from depressing it during daily driving

So basically, what is your opinion on the clutch that would best suit my purpose with the car?

PS...I have about 24k on the car right now, but it has seen some hard / spirited driving, a couple launches, and a few donuts. I also learned how to drive stick on it (I think that's the main thing that killed it...).

I just installed a ACT Street Disc with resurfaced OEM flywheel and it's awesome. It's a bit different from stock set-up, but if you are getting a 30r I would get a ACT 6 puck.

I've had the RPS Street Max for about 20k miles now. Had it installed with a resurfaced flywheel. I think that will be plenty for your current and future setup. The pedal feel is really not much more than stock.

Ditto; RPS Street Max with resurfaced flywheel for the last 50k miles.

exedy single plate organic or the act street will do the trick, but while that is being done i would consider throwing in the act street lite flywheel..it's not too much lighter, but it makes a nice difference

Haha hey me too! 24.5k and its starting to slip. I have over 300 hard launches on it though so im actually surprised the stocker held up this long!

I have the 600 lb RPS street max in and it's awesome. Pedal feel is much better than stock, even brand new stock, but it's really really not that stiff. No cramps here ever and I do long drives a lot.

I'm making only 322whp 354 ft/lb right now.

You realize that this clutch only holds 321 ft/lbs of torque at the flywheel. Wow!! what an upgrade!! If you really want to think about how useless this clutch is, the good majority of tuned stage 2 STi's are making about that at the wheels. If you want to think about it even further, if this is truly an upgrade think about how pitiful the stock clutch is. The ACT HDSS holds 515 ft/lbs at the flywheel, the ACT XTSS holds 566 ft/lbs at the flywheel and the RPS disk holds 500 ft/lbs at the flywheel. The RPS that holds 600 ft/lbs is a 6-puck, and unless you have built motor 35r type of power on race gas you will not need it.

Thanks for all the replies guys, but it seems like it isn't slipping anymore . I have no idea what the hesitation that I experienced was, but as of right now it appears that I'll be keeping the stocker for a bit longer.

But by all means, keep the suggestions and options coming - this is turning into a good general discussion

Did it get warmer recently? Mine only slips when its 50 or below out at night from the added power.

Yea. It's strange...all of a sudden when it became warmer outside it seems like it stopped slipping. I'm not gonna complain though
