Hey turninconcepts i will be geting the Unabomber's Sexy Rearend soon.. Give me your best deal

Also a while back i bought you TiC 04/05 Holy Shift Set, i put every bushing except Shift Linkage Bushings becuase i could not figure how to get the top most linkage apart. Theres no nut on the other end to the bolt its just flat on top. Any ideas?

I know the linkage below the top most 1 has a bolt and nut.

I cant figure how to get it lose without it spinning as i unloosen it..

Also does it make a big difference that i dont have those bushings in (feeling wise)..???
On the top of the linkage there is that flap you talk about, but it has two flats on either side just perfect for a 14mm wrench.

The linkage bushings definitely make a huge difference in feel by removing most of the slop in the shifter.

just a little tip , i can do them with no lift in about 3 hours total and also save some steps

step 0 car on jack stands and drain fluid
step 1 remove the intercooler
step 2 unplug the harnesses going to the trans
step 3 get under neath the car and undo shift linkage
step 4 remove drive shaft i mark one bolt to make sure it goes back on in the same position. (unbolt from the middle of the car.
step 5 remove the shift fork (this is easy ) pull rod out
step 6 loosen the trany bolts, remove starter, lower studs will require a swivel to get the nuts out and clearing the axles.
step 7 once everything is loose put a jack below the trans and undo the lower trans mount bracket.

step 8 have some one below rock the trans whole you pry the trans from the engine.

once loose carefully slide trans back and sit it on the cross member the back of the trans will be supported by jack.

you will have a good foot with out removing axles or anything to do what you need to do in there.

to finish simply slide trans forward on to the engine. a jack may need to be placed on the engine to bring th back down in order to make the tranny slide in easier.

axles, suspension etc were not touched.

Hey fellas
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen pics of a clutch install with out removing the transmission or axles. Just by sliding the engine forward about 6" gives you enough clearance for you to remove and install the necessary parts. Can anyone confirm this?

It is possible to do it but you can't just slide the motor forward 6" there isn't enough room for that, you would need an engine hoist to pull the motor out of the car. I've done it on a forester and would be how I would do it if I did it without a lift on an STi.

Hope you don't commute. I have the same one and Im aggravating an old knee injury with this damn clutch. Its a *****, I still stall all the time and the pedal pressure is more than any other car I have ever felt. You literally have to really slip the clutch and hold it at 1500 rpm untill under way or you look like retard who cant drive a stick, or you just stall and really look like a retard, lol.

I assumed a cherry picker and removal of the radiator and fans. But does the whole engine really need to come out?

My other question is in the other direction. What about sliding the tranny out and leaving the engine in place? Or am I on crack?

You can slide the engine forward to do it, thats the way I did mine. You need to remove the radiator and fans.

Exsactly!! So did you use a floor jack or cherry picker to slide it forward? Also, did you do anything to the tranny? Drop the subframe for easier alignment?

well stikid06 came over to help me today and i realized two things....#1 - my tools suck lol i need more and #2 if it wasnt for him coming over and helping me i would of been screwed.......

so words of advice ....2 people minimum when doing a clutch on your own
a trans jack is definetly your friend
and lots of swivels/ratching wrenches/and breaker bars are a big plus......

and i would like to thank jeremy(stikid06) for helping me, but even though im no stranger to working on cars him having done his own clutch helped me see what i was overlooking when doing mine ...thanks alot bro
