Hard getting into 1st and 5th

Sometimes while driving I cannot get into 1st gear. It just wont go in. After letting off the clutch and trying again, it seems to work. Also when I put it into 5th sometimes it vibrates and makes a god awful noise, almost like it is grinding. I was told before it might be the synchros. Is this something I should be worried about?

Typical syncro wear... my 2nd gear and 5th gear grind occasionally. You can try changing the tranny fluid but be careful with which fluid you choose. You will need to double clutch/rev match in order to downshift into 1st while moving from higher speeds. Let the clutch out in neutral, rev to approx rpm you should be in gear, clutch down, and it should slide right in.

sounds like syncros to me! eventually the gear wont even stay engauged

Syncros, 04s have a bad 5th gear that usually needs to be replaced. I had mine done (even outside of warranty) by the dealer 6k ago.

05 as well. 06+ got better syncros. I drove one the other day and it was a big difference.

ye i think my 1st gear syncro is going I have to pray that I can find a mod friendly dealership around here

Does anyone know what the cost is to have this done not under warranty?

lol mine does this alot in first and reverse, and whats even better is that when i do get it into first the whole tranny shakes

Im pretty sure my syncros are way past their life expectancy but watever...
