Default Spare tire issues

Today i had a flat on my rear right tire and had to put on the donut spare. After installing the spare i heard a distinct whine in the drive train and some shifting resistance. I drove the car home and do not plan on driving the car until i have installed my summer tires. Is this due to a tire height discrepency? Any advise

Default Re: Spare tire issues

All cars with fulltime AWD are sensitive to tire circumference. Subaru has a limit for difference in circumference in the owner's manual. If the spare is considerably larger or smaller than the other tire on the same axle, this can cause binding of the differential on that axle, and noises will result. Drive it long enough and you will cause damage. So you're smart to park it!
