FYI, this is the first time I have seen this thread.

I was in the same boat as the OP. You can find 1 person that says XX oil works great! less notchy, less grinds.......at first....and then you find another guy who said it didn't work a damn for them.

Stick to the OEM fluid and be done with it.

I too was told that the 75w-90 for our sti's were bottled by Shell by the Subaru Parts Department.

i actually ended up going with valvoline 75w90 and it was definately worked just fine for me. I have had it in for 1000 miles and its way smooth.

AT the same time, the parts department at subaru asked me something like "are you sure you want this, you could just go pick up any gl-5 75w-90 at a parts store?"

was nice about their honesty, but OEM fluid FTW.
