Default I have a quetion with my Clutch problem

I was driving and someone turn in front of me. I put it into 2nd gear it was revving at 3k and I put my foot down. Well the clutch just spun and all I sow behind me was white smoke and I could smell burning clutch. The peddle was mushy as hell. That was a week age. before this the clutch was 100% . The clutch spins every time I put my foot half throttle or more in 5th or 6th. The clutch peddle feels fine when the car is cold. Once I drive in stop and go traffic for like 2 miles the peddle gets mushy and there is not much peddle feel. I can put the clutch to the floor easy. When I let the clutch out with out giving it gas I can hear the throw out bearing scquealing. The clutch is done. I guess my question is, is why did this happen? And dose subaru cover it under warranty? I have my car for 2.5 years and she has 31k on her.

time for a new clutch. If your willing to pull off your exhaust / chip & tell the dealership that you don't abuse your car, then it yes, it will be covered. Otherwise, they're gonna blame it on the added power of your car (and probably "abusive driving" ).

Good luck!

I have a question. How the hell are you killing a clutch in 31k miles? Track your car a lot?

I have never been to the track with the car. That's why I was asking. It was fine and then it spun like I said and now it's f****.

Do you drive around with your foot resting on the clutch pedal or drive hills a lot?

no to both. The clutch first slipped when I had 20k. I just went stage 2 and the car was at the dealer for a problem. when I got it back it slipped. But then it was fine till now. I did go for my 30k to the dealer and they did put 2 miles on it. I can't beleave someone beat on the car and f*** the clutch up in 2 miles.

i highly doubt the clutch could have been destroyed in 2 miles, if they didnt know how to drive a manual i would be the syncros/gears first before the clutch i would think. Even then how many shifts can one get in 2 miles?

So your clutch was done at 20,000 miles and you have been dealing with it for the past 11,000? No offense, but I think you need to reevaluate how you are driving your stick shift.

No it slipped once in 3rd at 20k and that was it, in till now. I have been driving stick for 11 years now and I have never had a clutch problem before.

I'll calling the dealer today to see what they say.

If they do not cover it I was looking into clutches. How is the STi Street Max Clutch, Crawford Performance STi Street Series Replacement Clutch. I wont to launch the car at like 3k with know problems and I may go with the 20g turbo, maybe?

Thanks

I just had my clutch replaced under warranty yesterday. They notice my stage 2 setup. The service manager was giving me a very hard time. When the clutch was removed you could tell it was not abused. I was like "yeah ok". Anyways turns out pressure plate was defective. So covered under warranty. Just some advice remove your stage 2 setup. Reinstall your stock setup with all the cats. Because they might not doit. My $.02

Looks like Crawford uses RPS clutches. Its the same thing as the RPS Street Max pressure plate with the organic disk. I have almost 50k miles on mine. You can't really go wrong with either of the two above or the ACT HDSS or XTSS. The XTSS is a marginally stronger than the RPS or the ACT HDSS, but it does not matter because they will all be better than that chitty OEM Exedy clutch. If you really want to think of how poorly suited the OEM clutch is for a stage 2 car, then go to the Exedy website and look at their "upgrade from stock" Stage 1 clutch. It is rated at 400 ft/lbs at the flywheel (if I remember correctly), most stage 2 cars are easily making that at the flywheel and some are getting that at the wheels from some dynos.

I talked to the dealer, there mod friendly. He said I can bring it in and they will cover the disc only Why could you just replace the disc He said yep he knows, he said just go with a performance clutch like he is running and I'll be fine. He said the oem clutch can't really handle stage 2, It's a 50/50 it will go.

I just found that out looking at clutches last night.

Thanks guys

I talked the shop that built my mustang engine. They are a cobb dealer now. Anyway they said to put in a Competition Clutch, STAGE 1 - Gravity Series 2400 Clutch Kit. They said they work great in other car but they did not install any of them into a sti. Has anymore used this clutch and if so how was it?

Thanks
